As a black man who grew up relatively in poor neighborhood, it always amazes me to hear these stories. I say to myself, "white people actually have these problems?" I guess you can say I was ignorant. I didn't know much about white people other than what I'd read in "The Autobiography of Malcolm X"; that, with the environment I grew up in, manipulated my views of the world usually among racial lines. But, these calls make it clear to me that we're all the same and have many of the same problems.

Ouch...that is particularly dire because at 69 there's little to no chance that the income will ever improve. Poor lady dug her own grave, to be sure, but still a bit heart-wrenching.

She calls 20K in debt made the stupid mistake in my 20's taking out student loans. 20 years later...that cloud is STILL over my head, and thanks to Dave, I am learning to dig my way out, even if if it feels like I am moving Mt. Everest with a teaspoon...one scoop at a time.

"We're retired so we live on a fixed income" so when people make a wage they also live on a fixed income...generally the only way to increase your income is to work more hours...leaving you with less time to enjoy the fruits of your only real way to get significantly anywhere financially is to invest and it appears NO ONE uses this word...hense not many people including me know about this concept

I also think leasing is a ripoff, but $199 monthly is not too bad. My guess is that she puts very few miles on the car. 69-years-old and nothing saved for retirement. Sad. I wonder how that happened?

I think it's really unfair they are paying for her ''children's'' school debt. They are adults, and should being taking care of that.

I don't want a car payment even at MY salary and age . How in the world is she leasing a car while retired.... No saving... 3 k a month fixed income...
