How Good Was Alan Shearer, Really?

Alan Shearer is the top goal scorer in Premier League history. He broke so many individual records over his career and the majority of them still stand today, almost 2 decades since he retired.

Despite this, his trophy cabinet isn't as full as you would think. With that being said, how good was Alan Shearer, really?

For some players being immortalised in the town and city you grew up in and the club you've supported as a boy is worth much, much more than any trophy. Shearer was one of those few and us Newcastle fans absolutely adore him for it.

I normally agree with your ranking system but for players like Alan Shearer i feel that it (in no way) represents what a truly class goal scorer this man was..YES..He only won the Prem with Blackburn and YES if had chosen to join Man Utd instead of his childhood love Newcastle United his trophy cabinet would have been a lot richer but i guess some people value loyalty and being true to themselves over cups made of metal..I for one applaud this

He genuinely reignited a city’s economy when signing for Newcastle United.

I am a Sunderland fan and I can confirm that this man was a monster!! We were pretty Jealous of Newcastle having this exceptional player! Also, never forget how often he was injured, he missed many games and sometimes most of a season. He was mint!

Alan Shearer is the only English player I always looked up to. He was never a glory hunter or a cheater. He kept things real and played the game with honesty.

Ask any Blackburn fan fortunate to witness Shearer at his peak and they'll tell you he was an absolute monster. I remember an interview with Chris Sutton reflecting on their title-winning campaign and he said something like: "Everything he swung at that year just seemed to go in". 112 goals in 138 appearances for Blackburn. Beast.

How good was Matt Le Tissier? He's criminally underrated, I mean look at his goals and was a one club man with Southampton.

Remember watching MOTD in the '90s and Shearer had always scored, like every week. Insane striker.

He was one of the best strikers ever in this country. A proper goal getting machine. His stats are there for all to see. He might not have won lots of trophies but his stats, records and abilities were far superior to alot of strikers who had won trophies out there in the past and present. Phenomenal striker as an Arsenal fan i would've loved him at our club. I love the story of when sir alex ferguson contacted shearer asking him to sign, after alan refused a decade or so after ferguson said to shearer just think how many trophies you'd have won if you came to us.... Shearers response! Was - alex just think how many trophies Have won if i had wanted to of come to you. PURE CLASS. real man of integrity.

I don't believe you need to measure people by their medals.
Rhian brewster has a champions league medal for goodness sake.
Alan shearer was world class for definite.

He was ridiculously good. He had everything. Two major injuries as well. If he had gone to Man Utd in that 4-4-2 under SAF he would have won everything in the game. Newcastle were a joy to watch under Keegan. I hope Newcastle fans have have great times ahead. They deserve it.

He was absolutely brilliant. He scored every kind of goal. Great at holding the ball up and a fantastic crosser of the ball. He would have been awesome in ANY era.

Easy to forget, he also scored 23 top flight league goals for Southampton before the Premier League was formed - so his true total is 283 League goals.

Ans: He was really good, but he chose loyalty over silverware. He could have done more if he joined Man Utd.

At his absolute peak during his time at Ewood Park. His goal record over those 4 years was incomparable in the modern English game.

I was lucky enough to see Shearer in his pomp and he really was imperious, there were very few defenders in the league that could cope with his physicality, he could puncture a hole in any defence and then put the ball wherever he wanted with his feet or head.

Records wise he’s 5th in English Football history and 2nd in post WW2 behind Jimmy Greaves. Without the injuries he probably would’ve broke Jimmy Greaves record. Feel Extremely lucky to grow up watch him play and as a Newcastle fan I doubt we’ll see the likes of him for a long time

Thanks for the upload. I was born in Blackburn and as a young lad went to watch Blackburn play, Shearer will live long in my memory. What a guy, What a player, and what a legend he was and still is.

As a kid, I loved football never had a favorite team I was a huge fan of shearer, and because of him I chose Newcastle as my team (I'm not from Newcastle) I always respected how much playing for Newcastle meant to him.
