Destiny 2 Lore - The Speaker's Sight lets you hear the Traveller. This is what the Speaker heard.

Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the Final Shape touches on the Speakers with some regularity. Speakers, or Dreamers, were blessed with the ability to hear the Traveller's voice. The new Warlock Exotic "Speaker's Sight" is mask that amplifies this connection to the Traveller. Much like the mask of the Speaker we knew from Destiny 1, it is powerful enough to help you hear what the Traveller is saying.

Imagine being some bandit and pillaging some rotten corpse and picking up a cool mask and suddenly you hear voices in your head

Don't let this lore entry distract you from the fact that Byf made his D1 Warlock look like Luke Skywalker.

So what I gather from this video is that Byf has been a speaker this whole time. His moniker “this is my interpretation”. Once again thank you Speaker Byf 10 years of gold.

You know, i had an epiphany.

We have heard the Traveler's voice because every Ghost is a very literal part of the Traveler. Maybe it's trying to figure out what it should or wants to be, by being paired with a Lightbearer and growing with them.

An exploration of possibilities all in parallel while still aiding humanity and the rest of the universe in the only way it can. At the very least, the dream that references a voice caught in a throat to me seems like a reference to Ghosts (Light cradled in glass and wire).

"I think I was Dreaming. The Traveller was there.
And it was so small..." -Ghost

I don't know how well this translates to canon, but in the D2 reveal event trailer, when we see Zavala get raised for his first time, he makes his way to the refugee camp forming below the Traveler, and we can clearly see _A_ speaker preaching to the masses, wearing the same Speaker mask as in D1/Red War. So either our Speaker was _SUPER_ old for a non-guardian, or the one speaking in that lore entry wasn't the same as ours.

I wish Bill Nighy would have returned for The Final Shape...

Imagine the insight from the mini-Travelers coming from a voice like the one from Forsaken (but with mostly The Speakers voice)

Speakers Sight is my favorite exotic. I LOVE playing the support role and constantly spamming ability. Ohh and also the sound the healing grenade makes when it hits the ground is SOOO SATISFYING 😶‍🌫️

Hours I've wandered the Pale Heart, Being told that I am Chosen by my sidearm. However like my mask, it does not give me the sight to see what must be heard.

Not sure if this is grasping at straws, but I'd like to think part of the first dream might be a small reference to Riis? I remembered one of Variks' idle lines on Europa mentions how Eliksni buildings were tall enough to reach a 'forest green sky'. A part of me would like to think Dreams 1-5 are the Traveler sharing its fondest memories of the places it touched; because by Dream 6 onward, the narrator says "NOW I dream only omens", implying that everything before may not have been prophetic warnings. They also don't come to the narrator in any particular order either, and it's only when they wake up do the dreams feel like an organized sequence that need to be understood in a specific order, like a timeline.

Again, just rambling my own thoughts but thanks for another banger vid! I came to really appreciate the lore more thanks to you, they've made late night studying bearable

The Speaker is a strange character. According to Alpha Testers of D1, Joseph Staten envisioned the Speaker as a secret bad guy, like a Covenant-style Prophet of Truth, with Osiris basically being the Arbiter.

This story was removed and in Destiny 1 final release, the Speaker was told to be a Guardian. A Warlock, in fact. In D1 you can see a Ghost by his side at all times.

In D2 this was retconned and he was just a random Lightless dude with a “ghost friend” he also basically revealed that the Cult of Osiris’s skepticism of him was not misplaced: “Ghaul…I Speak for the Traveler…I never said it spoke to me.”

Now this has been retconned too, and it turns out the Speaker did indeed have the Speaker talk to him, it was just due to his mask and still very rarely.

I think Misraaks should become the New Speaker. The Traveler is literally giving him clearer visions with no special mask needed. This could solidify the alliance between House of Light and Guardians, and to make him a more messianic figure among Eliksni, i think he should gain Neomuna Quicksilver Nanite Augmentations. A literal Tech-Priest. A unifying force for Eliksni and Humanity.

You and Martin really picked the best tracks for this video; the Hope and its Excerpts, Eighth, Tranquility.

As always, great synopsis and fantastic scoring.

Ergo Sum would be a good pairing of weapons to listen to the Traveler like Nezarecs whisper

My warlocks Speaker Sight build makes use of scarlet semblance as a shader to make my warlock look kinda like Dante from Dante’s Inferno Xbox game based on the book of the same name.

Honestly kind of hoped we would have gotten something similar to lightfall, when we were waiting for root to drop and we could decipher the whispers by wearing things tied to nezarec. Would have been cool to have heard something while wearing the speakers helm, probably not voice lines ofcourse but maybe wave lengths/noises that could be in one way or another deciphered to contain words? So that we dont put a voice to the traveler but still get to hear words from it, maybe we get whale noises like it does but layered in on the sound is a message, it would be a WILDLY convoluted way to send a message, and most people would complain that they put story beats in a sound thats undecipherable without looking at the wave itself but it would be cool eitherway.
