“When the end of the world comes, I want to be in Kentucky, because everything there happens 20 years after it happens anywhere else.” — Mark Twain

Another good thing about Kentucky is that it's not a popular state to move to, which makes Kentucky more rural.

I'm a 7 year resident, a Chicago native. I find the winters very mild. Here in central KY we only get a few days of snow which quickly melts and occasional freezing temperatures rarely last more than a few days.

I moved to central Ky last year from Long Island. This isn’t humid but it is hotter. The pollution is nothing by comparison. The wildlife hasn’t been an issue as I grew up in eastern LI where deer strikes were as common as water. I do love the laid back lifestyle and super kind people.

It warms my heart to see that people in KY are welcoming to people moving into the state. I’m more familiar with states that don’t want ‘outsiders’ coming. Thank you all for sharing your experience!

The price of a house might seem low to you, but the pay is low here, too. So it doesn't matter how cheap a house is if you don't have the money.

Another con (pun intended) is that if I buy your car, I pay taxes. If you buy it back the same day or anytime, you pay taxes again on that same vehicle. Over and over and over that vehicle gets taxed every time it changes hands. Oh heres another one for you. Not sure if other states do this but KY does. Little towns can impose additional taxes on things like fast food. For instance the state tax in KY currently is 6% but is some small towns you will pay at least 9% at the drive through. My thought is if you need more cash flow to run your town, reduce the size of your government first. Dont steal from your citizens.

As for the first CON...I just moved here earlier this year..bought a farm in Clark County. Having grown up in Southern CA just 30 minutes from the beaches of Orange County...I don't, and WON'T miss it. Hardly went anyway.

My husband & I left CA 12 years ago & traveled around the states west of the Mississippi (as Texans) - enjoyed visiting & sightseeing, but not finding a new home.
We came into western KY & fell in love with Kentucky, so weve settled down for our "retirement home" around Paducah (McCracken Co) - it fit our needs & friendly folks!

Moved to small town central Kentucky a year ago from Washington state. So much more affordable, peaceful and beautiful. Decided on Danville/Harrodsburg areas (Boyle county) and ended up buying a house in little historic Perryville. Cute, small and extremely safe small town with a highly rated elementary school. Less than half (actually about one third of the cost) than home prices in Washington. Property taxes are so much less too. Friendly people and no more hours sitting in traffic. Highly recommend central Kentucky for a more peaceful and slower pace of life.

My husband lived in Kentucky as a kid and loves it. We are contemplating moving there. We currently live in Dallas metro area.

I love KY. Originally from Chicagoland and I will never go back. Kentucky is one of the cleanest, beautiful places with the nicest people I have ever met. I live in Central KY 45 min southeast of Louisville.

Just moved to Bowling Green from California.
I find most everyone we've meet to be super welcoming. I made sure to change my Cali license plates immediately! We were originally looking in Tennessee but found much better value in KY.
It's also a few degrees cooler in the summer since it's farther north.

I moved to southern Kentucky from Memphis 4 years ago, land was super cheap compared to Nashville, bought 45 acres with a good farm house for what a middle class house in Nashville would cost . and still can be in Nashville for my job in .45 minutes

I heard your webpage today for the first time. A couple of questions:
1. What is the average home price today, Oct. 4, 2024.
2. We are looking for 3 bdrms, 2 bath, 1/2 acre, 2 car . A small shop building would be a great bonus.
What are thecweather extremes. What is the actual humidity. We are in central Californi, near Fresno.
