I think Vader remembered Cal as he kept tabs on every jedi that is how the 2nd sister knew who cal was and who his master was (because jedi temple was under the emperor's rule and it's database must have been used to identify and hunt remnants of old jedi order)

I think the sheer fact that cal was able to survive order sixty six, fight his way through damn near impossible odds, choose his own path, AND that he survived both anakin as anakin and Vader, I think he deserves some respect from the dark side.
