Did Hades Really CHOOSE the Underworld?

In Greek mythology, Hades' dominion over the Underworld wasn't a choice, but rather the outcome of a divine lottery. After the Olympians' victory in the Titanomachy, the vast realms of the universe awaited division among the three brothers: Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. Rather than choose their dominions, they cast lots to determine their respective realms. Zeus, drawing the sky, became the king of the gods and ruler of the heavens. Poseidon, with his lot, gained mastery over the seas and waters. Hades, however, drew the lot for the Underworld, making him the lord of the dead. While this realm might seem daunting, Hades was neither evil nor malevolent; he was a neutral deity ensuring balance in the afterlife, meting out rewards or punishments to souls based on their mortal deeds.

Hades was the most chill of all his brothers

Hades actually found the Underworld befitted his personality. His rule was absolute there, even Zeus feared Hades's realm.

Personally I think he took on the role as master of death because he didn’t trust his brothers to do it, Poseidon was temperamental and prone to mood swings, and as for Zeus, give him the job and suddenly every pretty girl on the surface would suddenly drop dead and there souls would drift right into his bed chamber

So much you can learn from the underworld and it requires a compassionate and empathic god, which Zeus and Poseidon are not, to rule over and protect.

To me, Hades has an introverted personality & probably felt instantly at home in the underworld. Plus, the many secrets & gods gave him enough to occupy his mind.

I prefer this version: He was Cronos' first born son, so the world was his by birthright. While he didn't claim the world of the living, all of the world eventually becomes his subjects.

He was ticked in picking the stick of Hell but tbh he got the better Deal. Plus out of him and Zeus and poseidon Hades Is the Better Greek God tbh. And he is more loyal/faithful too His Wife. Hades is also the richest mf of all the gods. He owns all the mineral wealth underground, which is all of them.

All the world's riches come from the underworld as well. Pluto was god of death but also riches, hence the term "plutocracy", rule by the rich.

I’m not sure if it was in the Iliad or the Odyssey or Aeneid but one of the characters said the Zeus and Poseidon secretly fear the fact that Hades is potentially more powerful than both of them as there are many souls living in the underworld than there are alive. Fortunately, Hades is not into conflicts unlike his brothers. He never even meddled with the affairs of the gods and men

The Sky of cource aswell, its the highest realm.

To me Poseidon got the short end, but then again the Oceans suit him.

Wow, this video was so informative and entertaining! I learned a lot about Hades, the god of the underworld. Did you know that he didn't choose his realm, but got it by chance? He and his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, drew lots after they defeated the Titans. Zeus got the sky, Poseidon got the sea, and Hades got the underworld. Poor guy, he was not happy with his fate and wanted to change it, but he couldn't. He became the ruler of the dead and the underworld, which was also named after him. He hardly ever left his domain and was feared by everyone. What a fascinating story!

I mean as the eldest, King of the Underworld actually allows him his birthright. Eventually, everyone becomes his subject.
