A Tour of Hades - The Ancient Greek Underworld - Extra Mythology

We all know the stars of Hades are the Greek gods and dear Zagreus but the locale deserves some recognition too! So hop on the Ferryman's boat and let's take a tour of the Underworld, Supergiant style. We'll talk about the realms of the dead like Tartarus, the Asphodel Meadows (which aren't as firey in the original greek), and of course, the famed fields of Elysium. We'll talk about what kind of souls are in each, and even the very special VIP spot for those who manage to reincarnate as heroes three times throughout their life.

Seems like what the Greeks feared most about the afterlife wasn't so much being punished for wrongdoings (I mean, that's a pretty universal trope) but being condemned because of _anonymity._
Only _famous_ people get rewarded in the afterlife, _normies_ get vaguely unpleasant misery for the crime of not being memorable.
I feel YouTube is a pretty good analogy.

I love how the Olympic and Chronic pantheons feel like a big disjointed family in the game. Zeus is like Zagreus's "Cool Uncle". Poseidon is the "hey there champ" uncle who just wants you to like him. Dionysus is that one hipster uncle who goes on long hiking trips and smokes a lot of pot. Ares and Athena act as Zag's older brother and sister, and Hermes is the annoying little cousin.

It's pretty minor but you miss the Mourning Fields which was a place in Hades reserved for the souls who wasted their lives on unrequited love.

If Asphodel is covered in flowers in some versions, I'd wager that's more than likely Persephone's handiwork.

The "God of Death" is named Plutonas( Πλούτωνας), or in English, Pluto.
At times however, people would refer to him as Hades (Άδης)as well.

Just to be clear, the House of Hades in the game isn't exactly Tartaus. It's *in* Tartarus, I guess, but it's hardly representative of the place like the first stage of the game is.
