The Trinity and the Problem of Quran 5:116

In this short clip, we see the views of three Islamic Scholars on Qur'an 5:116 as to whether the verse of the Qur'an refers to the Trinity or not.

While two of the Scholars agrees it was talking about the Trinity, one on the other hand believe the verse was not talking about the trinity at all.

This only goes to shows the difficulty Muslims Apologist and Scholars have with the verse, admitting that it talks about the Trinity only proves that the author of the Qur'an does not understand what the Trinity is about.

Qur'an 5:116 has nothing to do with Trinity. It is directed to those who worshipped Mary as a goddess. Such as the Collyridianism group. Allah is warning Christians against Trinity in Qur'an 4:171

Eastern Orthodox here. We do not believe that Mary is part of the Trinity. We do not believe that Jesus' divinity originates in mary that is not how theotokos is understood. And if veneration of Mary is polytheistic then so is veneration of the Kabaah. Come to think of it veneration of the Kabaah seems to have polytheistic origins unlike veneration of Mary. That doesn't mean that it is a polytheistic practice today but it certainly was in the past.

The Quran describes Allah as the best deceiver there is, a liar who is not above using the same evil and wicked schemes of his opponents.

For example, the Quran calls Allah a makr, in fact the best makr there is:

But they (the Jews) were deceptive, and Allah was deceptive, for Allah is the best of deceivers (Wamakaroo wamakara Allahu waAllahu khayru al-makireena)! S. 3:54; cf. 8:30

Other texts that identify Allah as a makr include:

Are they then secure from Allah's deception (makra Allahi)? None deemeth himself secure from Allah's deception (makra Allahi) save folk that perish. S. 7:99

So they schemed a scheme: and We schemed a scheme (Wamakaroo makran wamakarna makran), while they perceived not. S. 27:50

The word for deception/deceiver/scheme is makr. The lexical sources define the term as:

Miim-Kaf-Ra = To practice deceit or guile or circumvention, practice evasion or elusion, to plot, to exercise art or craft or cunning, act with policy, practice stratagem.

Here the Quran in verse 5:116 talks about the Day when Allah questions Jesus (pbuh) about his mission and the response of the followers. So Allah poses this question to him and Jesus (pbuh) replies. Now it is for the Christians who worshipped Jesus ( pbuh) to fathom what is going to happen to them in that Day. If you fear that Day this msg must bring benefit to you or otherwise it will only increase aversion. The Merciful God, through this msg is sending an Admonition to those who heed, perhaps they don’t repent on the Day.

Christ Jesus sent John the Baptist, a great prophet, to prepare the way for His coming. John the Baptist preached repentance and he baptised His people. Christ Jesus rightly claimed Divinity: He forgave sin (an attribute of Yahweh (God); He said, before Abraham, "I AM" in His native language which the elders clearly understood as claim to Divinity; He I and my Father are One; He claimed to be the Lord of the Sabbath; As Yahweh God initiated the writing of His Word (The Golden Ten Commandments - the foundation of the Holy Bible) with His Royal Finger, so did Christ Jesus write with His Royal Finger in the sand; The Lamb of Yahweh God said, I will lay down my life, no one takes it from me, but I lay it down, myself and I will take it again. Wow!!!

He did not come to be worshipped, He humbly worshipped Yahweh God and taught us how to worship and have a relationship with Great I Am; The Master gave Himself to mankind - He washed His Disciples' feet and sent them to minister to the entire world with Great Authority and a promise to asked The Father (Islam denies that their Allah is incapable to adopt mankind as His children for a special relationship because of the Royal, sinless blood of Christ Jesus, our Salvation. And, He warned us to watch out for the false prophets who would come after Him.

Muhammad even thought that Satan, whom he erroneously believed was a jinn (cf. Q. 18:50), eats physical food such as what may be found on bones and in animal dung!

Narrated Abu Huraira:
That once he was in the company of the Prophet carrying a water pot for his ablution and for cleaning his private parts. While he was following him carrying it (i.e. the pot), the Prophet said, "Who is this?" He said, "I am Abu Huraira." The Prophet said, "Bring me stones in order to clean my private parts, and do not bring any bones or animal dung." Abu Huraira went on narrating: So I brought some stones, carrying them in the corner of my robe till I put them by his side and went away. When he finished, I walked with him and asked, "What about the bone and the animal dung?" He said, "They are of the food of Jinns. The delegate of Jinns of (the city of) Nasibin came to me--and how nice those Jinns were--and asked me for the remains of the human food. I invoked Allah for them that they would never pass by a bone or animal dung but find food on them." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 58, Number 200)

On a sidenote, wasn’t it so kind of Muhammad to pray on behalf of the jinns, that Allah would make sure that those bones would always have some meat on them? This does leave us wondering as to what kind of food did Muhammad think the jinn would actually find ON animal dung? After all, the hadith doesn’t say that they eat the dung itself, or the bones themselves, but that they eat the food ON them.
Since Muhammad thought that Satan could eat food, pass wind, and urinate in people’s ears, he may have believed that Satan was actually a corporeal being similar to us. This may explain why he felt that water could be used to flush him out of people’s noses!

There is no "problem" here, unless you insert one yourself. The Quran sometimes talks about the Trinity ("do not say THREE") and sometimes it talks about the false worship of Jesus & his mother the Virgin Mary (peace be upon them both). But it NEVER links the two together. That is merely what you are superimposing onto the text. Let the Quran speak for itself.

These muslim apologists are ignorant or purposely deceiving their audiance. The Roman Catholic church has NEVER had the doctrine that Mary was God, or that Mary has to be worshipped. The quran has a serious problem here. The church has found the trinity in the bible as a doctrine, and that has always consisted as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. So the creator of the quran should've known that. If that was by far the main stream christian faith, why didn';t the quran say a word about this?
Second: the first muslim said that Jesus came to the people of Israel only. He shows his ignorance here, because the quran says that the Jews received the Torah and the christians received the Gospel. The quran says this over and over again. So this muslim thinks that he knows better than allah.

@7:21 Dr. White was trying so hard to hear what he wanted to hear... ===> to hear that vers 5:116 is about trinity LOL so that he can say in his debates that the Quran get it wrong about trinity... this trick is very cheap ... you can see Dr While was almost falling from his chair because he was so excited to put words in the mouth of the Muslim scholar ... (by the way I like Dr white, he is very humble, very passionate and I love his debates so don't take me wrong) I am just trying to be consistent and apply the same standards :D

But let the Quran speak for itself 5::116
Q ==> "Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah ?'" (put 100 lines under besides)
Does this question say anything about trinity? yes/no?

A ==> "Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen."
Do you read anything about Trinity in this vers Yes/no?

This verse is VERY clear for any human being on earth, who has the lowest IQ. So we don't always need scholars' interpretation, they might be right or they might be wrong... quran insists and encourage you to use your mind, logic, reflect, think, ponder, consider etc (don't be like sheep) so the quran is clear this vers doesn't talk at all about trinity.

As to worshiping Mary, some ppl need to do some study in christian believe and history. ==> Even the popes worship Mary, millions of christian today kneel before Virgin Mary and pray to her (besides Allah) .. of course they say she is the mediatrix!!! LOL Does God need a mediator? just ask the Bible you get the answer !!!!
and when you ask them who is Mary you get such answer ==> "If Mary is the mother of Jesus, and if Jesus is God, then Mary is the Mother of God." They make it even more confusing and complicated for themselves to understand their own Trinity !!

why in the verse said Allah, Jesus and Mary, because in islam they believe in holy spirit too. it wrote in the same surah in verse 110, that says "....Pure Spirit...". if they write pure spirit in verse 116, it will be a non sense thing because Allah reject the pure spirit/holy spirit which is the attribute
of Himself. so they replaced the word as Mary to avoid contradiction.
one more thing, from the surah 110 we know that in islam there is 2 Gods, Allah and the pure spirit. so they statement that say God is one is contradictive with surah 110. if in islam has 2 Gods, it would make sense that Allah pray. pray to whom? of course to pure spirit.
hope you can accept this by your logic.
