1689 Chapter 26 Paragraph 10

The work of pastors being constantly to attend the service of Christ, in his churches, in the ministry of the Word and prayer, with watching for their souls, as they that must give an account to him;1 it is incumbent on the churches to whom they minister, not only to give them all due respect, but also to communicate to them of all their good things according to their ability,2 so as they may have a comfortable supply, without being themselves entangled in secular affairs;3 and may also be capable of exercising hospitality towards others;4 and this is required by the law of nature and by the express order of our Lord Jesus, who hath ordained that they that preach the gospel should live of the gospel.5

1. The duties and responsibilities of the pastor
- The pastor has solemn duty to teach the Word.
- 1 Tim 2:2, 5:17 (Ruling and preaching elder).
- Pastors are to pray unceasingly.
- Acts 6:4ff - The pastors are to focus on ministry of the Word and Prayer. Hence, the need for diaconate ministry.
- Pastors, do you pray for your flock?
- Prayer is labor and toil.
- The work of the pastors which is no easy task. Pastors are to take pains in these (1 Tim 4:16-16)
a. Feeders
b. Shepherds - Hebrews 10:23

- The pastors are to grow in Christlikeness.
- The focus sphere of the Pastor's work is the local church.
- The pastor must see to it that the men are equip
- He must watch for the souls of the flock (Acts 20:28). Overseer - pastoral counseling, etc.
- The members must also seek to ministry of the pastor. They are not omniscient and this duties requires discernment.
- The leadership of the church is directly accountable to the Head of the church, Jesus Christ (Heb 13:17).
