as a person with a shrimp (and shellfish) allergy, I have been told that I should not try insect-proteins.

Zoologist here. "Bug" is a colloquial term. Crustaceans are arthropods like insects, so in my professional opinion, yes. Shrimps is bugs.

3 years into my biology degree and honestly shrimp is bug. Rose thorns are actually thistles/prickles, avocados and bananas are berries but strawberries and raspberries aren’t. You can call anything anything, I’m gonna be referring to shrimp as bugs forever now (In a non academic context obviously)
