The ultimate coffee scale showdown - which one should you get? The Acaia Lunar 2021 - revamped and ready to rock - or the Acaia Pyxis - the tiniest powerhouse?

Espresso Machine: Breville Infuser
Grinder: Niche Zero
Coffee Scales: Acaia Lunar 2021 and Acaia Pyxis (though I need to pick one ...)

Where to Buy
Unlike the Pyxis, the Lunar 2021 is only available on Acaia's website. (I think they're controlling releasing inventory or something). Try refreshing this page to nab it:

I ordered the Pyxis specifically because it's the only bluetooth scale that I found that fits under the Cafelat Robot

So I JUST ordered the Pyxis today after having the Acaia lunar for 5 years now. I didnt even know theres an updated version until today when I went on the Acaia site. Unfortunately I cannot sell my Lunar as its a special LaMarzoco edition that is no longer made. I decided to get the Pyxis for the pure vain reason to have it as my dedicated expresso shot scale, while the Lunar will be living its final years to weigh beans before and after they go into the grinder (to make sure the same amount comes out). On the Lunar I only used 2 modes (weight mode and auto tare / time start) so the Pyxis will do the same. I guess the Lunar can do the double duty of being a pour over scale as well and all around kitchen scale. When the wife asks why I have two coffee scales, my response will be, "because SCIENCE!" LOL

Nice review / comparison :)
Pyxis is just so cute and tiny, I think that's the main thing it's got going for it! I can't believe it's even more expensive than already expensive LUNAR, but does offer 0.01g accuracy, which the Lunar SHOULD for its price point as well, The Lunar kinda does have the option to display in 0.01g but probably not so accurately (I don't think they claim it's only accurate to 0.1g in the specs). You could probably change the Pyxis to display 0.1g and it will jump around less if you prefer!

You definitely don't want to put a big Latte mug on the little baby Pyxis. Espresso shot glass should work better, still could see some obscuring the display, even a cortado cup on my Lunar sometimes obscures the display a little, if not positioned well.
Using an app to mirror the display would help, but it's often annoying to use an app I have 2 smart scales and 99.9% of the time I don't bother with apps.

The pad is nice because it insulates against shock and heat, apparently heat isn't good for the scale, but I just don't like the feel of putting down a hard cup down on an aluminum scale! It should cover more of the scale and/or have an adhesive option, on my Hiroia Jimmy the whole weighing pad has a nice silicon adhesive pad on it (I think it was an extra part my friend bought and installed, it doesn't come with it I believe) but it makes using the scale a lot nicer with the pad I find!

LOL "your an coffee scale, that's your job!" I did find even with the Lunar it seems more unsure / sensitive, there's settings to change that, but I tried messing around with them and no matter what it seems to jump around a bit more than the Hiroia Jimmy which doesn't seem as affected by slight vibrations or a breeze. If you haven't played with the Pyxis settings, try tweaking that and see if it works better for you (assuming you haven't returned or re-sold it yet!).
You might want to check out the Jimmy scale, it has a detachable, magnetic display which I thought was gimmicky at first, but for a large cup or for weighing out a bowl of coffee beans or something else it comes in very handy so the display portion is out of the way not obscured. It is a larger scale though so doesn't sit as nicely on some small espresso machines drip tray, but as a pro, it can also be used more comfortably for pour overs!

actually Lunar 2021 has a high resolution reading mode (it is off by default so you need to turn it on) that increases the precision to 0.01g to rival the Pyxis

I use Pyxis as my travel scale together with my Picopresso and J-Max Handgrinder. Makes really good espresso
