Hi @Xris, thank you for taking the time to create this video about our Lunar.

First of all, We apologize for any confusion we caused the last time we were commenting. In regards to your question at 2.11, as Tony mention in their comment, we recommend using the rubber heat pad that comes packed with the scale. The heat pad can be flipped up to level the portafilter so it does not spill any grounds (and for some users, not having the experience of metal on metal). You can tell the difference as the 'lip' of the pad will face up.

The Pearl Model S, along with our other scales, all have their main focuses on what they are best suited to within a commercial or home environment. The Pearl series are all directed towards pour-over brewing and portafilter use (we also recommend using a heat-resistant pad with all in this series). The Lunar is built with the intention of espresso machine brewing (based on its tailored modes) but can also be used for pour-over manual brewing in the dual-display mode. Different materials have different desirable properties and also set products apart from each other visually.

We are also happy to discuss this more with you!

To put the debate to rest, I spoke w/ Andrew Meo (recently retired) who was the owner/chief operator of Rocket and he said absolutely start your timer once you lift the lever and actuate the pump. There you have it. And it’s a major upgrade from the Appartamento to the Mozzafiato! Start saving since the Mozzafiato had a recent price increase.

Great video! Left a subscription.

And btw. I really think about buying the lunar as I have upgraded my machine to a Lelit Bianca, Eureka mignon specialita grinder, VST baskets aso. The only two things missing is a good scale and a single dose grinder (this will be the niche zero somewhere in the future).

I have enjoyed all your videos. I am new to coffee and Espresso brewing. I was going to order the Lunar but did not because of your comment about a possible upgrade. What do you think of the Acaia Pyris. I will be using it on the Flair 58 and I have ordered The Smart Espresso Profiler and it needs an Acia scale for its app.

Damn good video. Thanks for making it. Want this scale, but don’t need it for my modest bambino+ and sette 270. I’ll just stick with my Hario…for now

I’m still on the fence. Also kind of put off by the battery only lasting 3-5 years before having to send it back in somewhere for a new one at a cost. I’d want this thing to last forever without any hassle/expense once purchased. Hmmm, I’m just going to have to close my eyes one day and click “buy”. One of those purchases.

@Xris, I think you were spot on with your conclusion. It is aimed at a commercial setting or for coffee enthusiasts that have already invested a ton on their coffee setup.

Good honest review and absolutely it is way overpriced BUT like you found, if it is a daily use item that brings simplicity to your routine and removes some niggles from your workflow then it is worth paying the price. I can't help but think other manufacturers will have reverse engineered it and we will soon see some less than half price knockoffs that will have 90% of the functionality though. Acaia are the Apple of espresso weighing it seems

Oh im angry alright. Angry at how unbelievably SENSIBLE you are!!! For real though I appreciate the reasoning for why and when buying this might make sense. When dealing with any luxury item it's never going to be a fully practical purchasing decision.

This really helped me realize I do not need an acai scale when I recently started investing in craft coffee, but I am currently trying to decide on a filter-specific brew grinder. Do you have any thoughts on whether the Fellow ode or the Eureka Mignon Filtro would be the better choice?

I find cycling through the modes incredibly frustrating. I wish I could send mine back for a refund.

[ 4:45 ] Yeah man I feel that big time! It's really frustrating when I'm pulling shots behind the bar and I've accidentally touched button to cause it to switch out of the mode it was originally set to (esp. when there's a big rush). Like, please don't tare while the shot is pulling!!

Though one thing to add, the scale is robust as hell from my experience. It has fallen from a distance of 5ft many, many times onto a tiled floor and it has surprisingly survived and kept chugging along. It has hella dents and scratches from being used in the shop so it's not as clean looking any more.

Also, totally nitpicking here but, when are they going to make the switch to USB Type C? And could they add a rubber cover to the USB port just for added security when constantly using it in the shop?
