In this video, BuzzFeed producer Erin Phraner shares a recipe for Water Pie. Yes, it's as weird as it sounds but is it delicious...

WATER PIE
SERVES: 8 to 10
1 unbaked pie crust
1 cup water
3/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces

1. Preheat the oven to 400˚F.
2. Into the pie crust pour 1 cup water. Mix the sugar and flour in a bowl; sprinkle over the water. Top with the vanilla and butter.
3. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 375˚F and bake 20-25 minutes more until bubbling and golden (cover crust with foil if needed).
4. Let cool 10 minutes then refrigerate at least 1 hour or until firm

Would you try this crazy pie recipe!?

OMG!!! When I was a little kid, my aunt make a pie and I loved it. Everyone called it Butter Pie. I have looked high and low for a recipe and I found Buttermilk Pie. I made one but it didn't look or taste the same. Tonight, almost midnight, as I was looking at youtube food videos, I came across Water Pie and thought I'd take a look. Imagine my surprise...this is the PIE I loved. Water, not Butter Pie. I'm 76 years old and finally have that pie recipe. Can't wait! Be making it tomorrow. I am just so excited about this discovery and I remember the taste and texture like it was yesterday. Thank you, Aunt Katherine, for the wonderful memories and when I make your pies, I will think of you.

This is just an old school recipe from the depression era. It's basically an eggless custard pie. I'm sure you could just as easily combine all ingredients in a bowl and put them directly into your pie crust. Either way, I'm definitely trying it!

Oh my goodness it is fantastic. I love it. The next time I make this recipe I'm going to substitute 3 tablespoons of Cocoa for the 3 tablespoons of flour.

Coffee with a little Hershey chocolate syrup mixed in for a mocha latte pie. Probably reduce the sugar a little bit if you use chocolate syrup. Maybe lime juice for a poor man's key lime pie topped with a little whip cream.

What size pie plate did you use? Your pie looks a bit wider and flatter than others I've seen that call for a deep dish pie crust. Wondering if I can substitute dishes

Tea? Now that's an idea. In South Africa we have a national staple called red bush tea. A beautiful warm flavour that lends itself to either sugar and milk or just lemon and honey. Thanks fore that inspired idea

Would this still set up properly using much less sugar, or a sugar substitute? It was waaay to sweet for us. My kids couldn’t even finish one slice complaining it was to sweet.
