Make Door Jamb Flush With Wall | Uneven Sheetrock

Making a door jamb flush with drywall is a simple project and one you can do yourself.

For many reasons, drywall may be thicker than what your door jamb or winder casing extends out to. In my case, I had 1/8" wall paneling that I replaced with 1/2" drywall and so I had to fix this.

By using a 1x4 piece of wood, I was able to rip it into 1/4" thick strips that I glued to the door frame and then nailed in with the Ryobi battery powered finish nailer.

Then I capped that off with the final door trim, caulked it all up, and nailed it in. Once painted, no one will ever know the amount of extra work that went into this whole project.

great tutorial video. The results are truly professional. I really like the idea of not trying to level the shim and giving it another layer of detail.

Thank you for this - especially the part with using the planer to make the wood fit the uneven part. Now I have to go buy a planer but I might buy a manual one since I only need it rarely

What if the level is only off
On one side of the door? If I fix the side
That needs the jamb extended then it wont match up with the top.

I havent seen any video about fixing sticking doors where the jamb is warped towards the knob. I have plugged in a screw to get jamb to straighten but with limited success. Been trying to solve the problen short of shaving the sticking part. Any ideas?

When you renovate each home, please give them a name and put it in the title so we know which home you are working on. Thank you for showing your mistakes like when you cut yourself or when you threw up due to paint poison and letting us know when you don't know what to do but then think overnight and come up with a perfect fix the next day. I loved seeing you use concrete bags and wetting them for steps and retaining wall. Tips and tricks are why I am binge watching all your videos.

Sorry what if you needed to take the trim off for some reason. It's now glued on so now what?

If she don't like the jacket - maybe she shouldn't wear it? What? Don't like that rug runner either? Good content. Helps me with my work on a 1969 double wide trailer. Thank you.

Bruh I got like 4 doors where every part of sheet rock is too wide. I don’t have the tools or patience to do this method so I guess I’ll just leave the gap 💀

This is not the way to do it. You will get a crack along where that extra piece was installed. You should offset the piece to give a second reveal which would look better. I can easily see the two different pieces of wood in your final product.
