My little brother and I spent the summer with my grandma. One day while driving over a creek, she told us (in her sing-song southern accent) "Keep close to the house, they found a woman in that creek", and then she said, "her hands were cut off."

It was summer in 1976, and grandma lived in the hottest part of the deep south.

I remember not wearing a seatbelt and the windows were rolled down. Before the creek, I was sitting up on my heels, with my arm hanging out the window as we cruised along in my grandma's big rusty boat-of-a-car, trying to stay cool.

As soon as we crossed over the creek and she told us that story, I immediately plunked myself back into my seat and stared forward.

My little brother and I grew up in the PNW so when the summer was over, we went home, almost 3000 miles away and never heard another word about that story, ever.

Over time, when that memory cropped up, I imagined my Grandma was just telling a scary story to keep us from wandering too far from the house.

As I grew older. I began to wondere if maybe it was a false memory, that I was mistaken, I probably saw it in a movie or something. I was no longer sure that she actually ever said that.

Even after the Internet came about, it never dawned on me to Google it.

I watch crime stories on YouTube, as a crime buff, trying to figure out who done it, and imagine my surprise almost 50 years later, BAM! YouTube! It was a real story!

The creek is in Grand Bay, Alabama, one of many small outlying burbs in the immediate Mobile vicinity. Grandma's house was a few miles down from that creek off Potter Track Road, the same one we crossed 47 years ago. Both my grandparents are buried in the cemetery nearby.

So here we are. Ada Fritz.

The memory of what happened to you lived in the mind of this woman for many many years. I am so sorry your life was cut short.

I am very grateful to the DNA technology that helped get your name back. That they were able to identify your murderer too is something.

Honestly finding a dead body would be tough for anyone to deal with no matter what age you are

Randy Kraft was a true American nightmare. A driven, intelligent and methodical killing machine.

If they identified Steven Shelton by fingerprints, that means they have his photograph and date of birth too. Why are they refusing to release it to the public? They won't release his middle name too. By the way I'm glad you talked about him in your video, his case has been puzzling me for years

The fact that the victim's dentures were missing indicates that it was an experienced killer and she certainly wasn't the only victim

I do not understand the Steven Shelton situation. If, in fact, that is his name, why isn't he traceable via the genealogy sites? According to the internet, it appears more work on this case needs done to contact his family.

Evil comes in many forms. It will always try to earn your trust. It will be kind. Until it gets what's it's after.

The perpetrators have got away with these for too long or are dead so there will never be justice for the victims here

I have been trying to figure out for a while where I know the narrator’s voice from.
Tonight it came to me …. The narrator for Thomas the Tank Engine! 😅

I had been thinking that the voice didn’t match the content. Now I understand! 😂
