Update: Linux on the GPD Pocket 2 (Debian and Fedora)

In a previous video, I noted that Debian didn't support the little computer's WiFi out of the box. That's because I was using the default Debian disk image. Switching to one with non-free drivers resolved the issue.

I also noted that the display wouldn't rotate in Fedora. That's because I was using the default Wayland display server. Switching to Xorg resolves the issue... but it also means that display scaling is set to 100 percent instead of 200 percent, and that makes text and graphics look tiny.

I still would like to highlight the fact that this tiny thing has TWO full sized USB ports!
This tilted screen thing is really annoying though

I know most people may not care for it, but I think it would be nifty to have Mac os installed on one of these. Considering it's finally on a none Atom chip, installing hackintosh shouldn't be a problem. I'd love to see a comparison between this maybe slightly overvolted vs a base model Macbook.

If you run xev you can see what keycodes the volume keys send and then map then to volume up and volume down.

Would like to see a update video (if you havent done one yet) for this laptop to see if things change, improved, or gotten worse while running under linux.

I'd be really interested to know what the battery life is like with Debian on the GPD Pocket 2.

In your last Video, you have not clicked "Apply" in the top right corner on Fedora, when you changed the display orientation because it was out of the screen. If this does not help, you could try editing ~/.config/monitors.xml. If you do a persistent installation, you probably also want to copy this file to, so your changes are also applied on the display manager, but remember to change the permissions of the copied file.

I'm interested to see if the fan runs hot on Linux like it does on Windows 10...

Can you have a closer look at the BIOS Password (which never worked well on pocket1) and the power management (which tends to freeze on pocket1) and the Display Connection on USB-C?

I'm curious about bluetooth... did you see if that works on Ubuntu?

Did you even try using the GNOME "Tweaks" application to change the scaling settings?

Christ, I swear they began talking up Wayland about a decade ago, and it is still a prototype.

Try Gnome Tweak tool instead, thanks for the update :)

*'gnome-tweak-tool'* is the app your missing for HDPI changes

Linux Mint is a horrible choice for new hardware. Arch and Gentoo are much better choices for new hardware and limited resources. With that said I would love to see this run with KDE in Antergos given all the recent small touchscreen device support.

Thanks for these videos but, damn is it hard to justify $500+ for this.

I use a shell script to rotate the screen, using the xrandr utility.

I'm sure you could change the dpi settings to make it bigger
