You’re amazing TYSM!! I took a 20 year hiatus from skating and now I’m about to jump back in on vert!! Everything you said was literally exactly what I needed to hear rn. I’m 42 now, but whatever, I NEED to feel the wind in my hair and that drop-in gravitational pull again. ❤️🦅❤️

very inciteful. a good break down of a mental and physical process, no short cuts just effort an reptation

Thanks man for putting the feeling of the drop into words, helps me to imagine it in my mind and picture myself doing it. It's bizarre right trying to understand how you can fall and your board catches you. Dam I'm amped to get my first vert drop in a few weeks. Cheers Neil!

Very eloquent description of a Vert drop in. I did my first one a few months ago and my experience was exactly the same, but I would not have been able to describe it as well as you have!

I do have a strong memory of the ground rushing up to meet my face and somehow my legs catching me, a deep burning in my legs and then somehow crossing the flat bottom 😅😅.

Thank you Neil - all things I have been wondering about. How to judge the forces, on dropping and what that 1st transition will feel like on the legs. Knees slides too - thx

Great video Neil… really thorough explanation about dropping, grinding etc… glad you managed to compress a lot of backdated footage into a very comprehensive 25 min video.
I’m sure it will help a lot of people out there. 👊🏻

Great video, and genuinely what I wanted to hear right now.

I've only been skating for about a year now (42). Mini ramps of whichever size I'm very comfortable with, but I've stood on top of that vert in skaterham a few times, and it terrifies me. Maybe in the new year... mmmaybe

Awesome video Neil, yearning you break it all down and your experience will definitely help someone who’s taking the first steps into vert. Not me though I’m leaving that beast well alone 😂

Interesting to hear someone explain what it feels like when dropping in on vert. I have no problem with mini-ramps, I wish there were more around and some midi as well but vert sounds very different. I pumped the vert at Southsea once when I was 11 but got told to get off by the skatepark announcer for not wearing a helmet :)

Enjoyed listening to all your struggles which I totally share as a beginner Vert skater (of similar age?). I did get some good tips eventually from others, like you mentioned where to look on bs grinds... but I guess no one like to be a skate coach?

Why don’t you learn how to skate frontside? I found FS to be easier than backside in some ways. Thanks for sharing this vid!
