I love Android but iPad is still a boss of tablets.

Both devices would seem high performing. Some benchmark tests from another video show that the iPad Air performs around twice as fast on a single core than the Note 10.1 on a single too. However, since there are more cores on the Note 10.1, the multi-core performance is about the same on both devices. In practice, the multi core is all that matters to the user. TouchWiz can cause slight lag at times on Samsung devices but newer firmware updates improve on this. Although you can't remove TouchWiz (unless you root the device and install stock Android), you can reduce it's laggy impact with other launchers (e.g. Nova Launcher). The iPad air has a less cluttered, cleaner and snappier interface. In terms of customisation, Android will always beat Apple. Android is aimed at more advanced users who want to make more use out of the tablet than basic multimedia usage. The S-Pan feature in the 10.1 is one of the strongest parts if you can find the benefits to your everyday life (many will, many won't). The resolutions are similar, but 4:9 ratio is better for video and making the most out of the screen real-estate - though the iPad Air gives you better experience in portrait mode. I'm not going to compare the cameras, I honestly have no clue why they bother with them. The price of the tablets would probably be a lot cheaper if they ditched this redundant feature. I mean, you look like a total douche holding a 10" tablet up in the air to take photos. Expandable storage is an important difference. If you want to store many HD movies, TV shows, music etc., the Note 10.1 gives you opportunity to get 80 GB (16 GB model) or 96 GB (32 GB model) - minus a few GB for the OS). The iPad air is limited unless you pay a lot more for the higher capacity ones - up to 64 GB total (the OS may be smaller in size though). However, cloud storage is a workaround if you can find reliable Wi-Fi access when you need it. I went for the Note 10.1 due to the display ratio, expandable storage, S-Pan features and the highly customisable interface/OS. It's difficult to say if one is better than the other because it depends what features you need and what you don't need. If you compare the features or aspects that are the same, they are fairly similar. My comment ended up being a massive comparison, so I don't know if any of you care but just posting my thoughts here.

The Galaxy Note 10.1's TouchWiz overlay ruins the entire tablet experience, thereby discounting every advantage it has over the iPad Air. Yes, it really is that bad. If you don't think so, just wait a few month as the lag and jitter gets progressively worse. You will remember my words and regret ever buying it.

I like my samsung note.. I can take notes and record my lectures (no more binders for me!), send e-mail and watch a youtube video at the same time xD.. If you don't multi task a lot, or take a lot of notes, stick with the Ipad. The galaxy note is more expensive but I rather pay the extra cash just so I can get a 64 gig SD card than to pay more for an I pad air just to get some extra gigs.

If I wasn't going to college, and didn't write a lot of notes, I would most likely go for an ipad.. The ipad is more for movie watching and web surfing.. I can do that on my desk top computer though hmm..

Note 10.1 2014 is my choice.
A tablet that big needs to do more and Samsung delivers just that.
For all the ipad lovers out there that may complain about the higher price of the Note... I guaranty if Apple had an option to add a built in stylus on the ipad for $50 more everyone of you would be in line for days. Just saying.

The only advantage the iPad has over the Note 10.1 is, uh, well, dang, I can't think of one.

OMG thank you for the perfect comparison. I just watched the same comparison by PhoneArena and he had *iFan* written all over his face the whole time. Please teach that guy to do a proper review/comparison.

Really nicely done review and great to see that you thought through and balanced the equation - especially when comparing prices vs storage.

I bought my 6yr old son an iPad air and we all love it. I bought myself a 2014 note 10.1 and love it. My time is probably spent more with the Samsung but I also don't mind using the iPad.
Both great devices in my opinion.

After watching tons of videos about these two, think about which application you need most, because what you will find in Apple you won't find it on the Samsung. Same goes what you need in Samsung you won't find it in Apple

Well done, balanced review - I'm torn between the iPad and Note Pro 12.2. I do a lot of doodling and drawing along with note taking and even though note has the digitiser screen with tailored built in apps, iPad has a lot more optimised apps that do a similar job - not necessarily better. As for scotch apps, iPad wins big time with Procreate and ArtRage to name two unequaled applications specifically designed for iPad. In a quandary. I know come end of year iPad will be easier for me to sell, which is an advantage.

The Real Difference that matters to me which you didnt even mention is the GPS. Note 10.1 can give me my location on a prechached map (Google maps) and I can figure out my directions from that with just the wifi version while Ipad needs the cellular version and an active data connection ( no precachaing possibility).

Note 10.1 2014 FTW for me :) now even ipad air goes cheaper because they are no matched for Note 10.1 2104.16:9 ratio is way better 4:3+higher resolution, louder and clearer speakers, productivity, features and camera etc.FYI, ipad air is just marginally lighter and thinner if you know both tablets measurement. I mean come on, ipad air is like just a bigger iphone with iOS7+ and the only difference are battery life, screen size and camera :) nothing's more.
P.S-For the reviewer, how is the camera sir? Note 10.1 2014 has 8.0 MP(rear) with flash and can capture better images with more details and 1080pFHD with stereo recording while ipad air is nowhere near that capabilities. Poly carbonate is to keep light-weight as it contains more cutting edge stuffs inside :)
