👉 Learn about the remainder theorem and the factor theorem. The remainder theorem states that when a polynomial is divided by a linear expression of the form (x - k), the remainder from the division is equivalent to f(k). Similarly, when a polynomial is divided by a linear expression of the form (x + k), the remainder from the division is equivalent to f(-k).

The factor theorem states that when a polynomial is divided by a linear expression and the remainder is 0, then the linear expression is a factor of the polynomial. Using, the remainder theorem, we have that when f(k) = 0, then (x - k) is a factor of the polynomial also, when f(-k) = 0, then (x + k) is a factor of the polynomial.
