I left my cat for three days (with neighbors coming in and feeding him), and when I came in the door, he jumped in my arms and started purring. Five minutes later, he bit my arm, started smacking my face and growling. Yep, happy to see me, but he was also going to make sure that I knew how mad he was that I dared to leave.

When I came home for Christmas after my first year of Uni, I had 3 cats at the time and I fell asleep in an armchair and when I woke up, one was asleep in my lap and the other two were sleeping on the arms of the chair :D

My view on cats and dogs missing their owners is:
Dogs: oh my god! You're back! I've been worried sick ever since you left!
Cats: where the fuck have you been? Why the hell should I greet someone who left for 12 months without saying anything?

I left for about 2 months and when I came back my cats looked at me with fear in their eyes and took off. I had to let one of them sniff me before he warmed up, I think they thought I was dead or something! The other one actually checked me for a reaction. He came up and nipped my arm and then sat back. And then again. And again until I realized that I think he wanted to see if I did what I usually do when he nips me and give him a firm pat to make him stop. As soon as I did that he was all over me. Cats are weird.

I left my cat for 8 days and returned to having him purring and meowing at me for at least 4 days straight.

Cats do this because they are angry you've been gone too long. Once they feel you have learned the error of your ways, all is well again.

When I went to college to another city I had to leave my cat with my parents. After three months she died. My mom said she would stop eating, or do anything. She just sat by the door waiting for me to return. The vet said the cat was healthy, but got sad and lonely, and that's why she died. I never knew cats could die of sadness too.

lol. I left my oldest cat for 3 days, before I could even fully through the door there was suddenly this black ball running towards me meowing and purring like I just returned from a war. How the cat would know what human war is? idk point is I felt loved! :3

It's not that the cat doesn't care that he's back, the cat is pissed that he's been gone so long.  My cat ignores me when I first come back from a trip, too.  She's mad that I've been gone for so long.  Eventually she gets over it and warms up to me. Cats for the most part react different then dogs.  My dog on the other hand is wagging her tail, jumping up and down, etc.. Also, for all the cat lover's, there is a cartoon called "Simon's Cat." These are hand drawn and are about 1 to 3 minutes in length. They are the funniest cartoons about a cat that I have ever seen.

my family and i once had to leave town for about a week. When we returned my cat jumped to me and started cuddling me by rubbing his head to mine it was heart touching :')

I had a cat that was very attached to me and after I was gone for a week, when I came home she climbed a tree and would not come down or come in the house for three days. She was really mad I think.

When I went to New Zealand for a month my house sitter said Puddy Tat, my cat, wouldn't come out from under the table for a week and she would howl in a scary way.  When I got home she just sat and glared at me from across the room.
