Cuban Missile Crisis

In October 1962, the United States and the Soviet Union faced off at sea when it was discovered that the Soviets were constructing nuclear missile bases in Cuba. The tense standoff for 13 days was known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. An aggressive blockade (termed a "quarantine") by the US Navy compelled the Soviets to withdraw the missiles, and potential nuclear armageddon was averted. This video was commissioned in 2012 by the Naval Historical Foundation on the 50th Anniversary of the Crisis. The video was produced by R.H. Rositzke and Associates.

Good video.  I agree with others, though, that it should be mentioned toward the end that the U.S. agreed to remove missiles from Turkey in exchange for the Russians removing the Cuban missiles--it's a huge part of the story.

I believe this video was very biased towards the American Navy, stating it can protect the United States against any force.

I remember the crisis. I lived in Los Alamos NM and my dad worked at the LASL. 2 months later JFK visted the lab. I was only 10. Ironic I served aboard the Blandy- a ship mentioned in this piece in the early 70's.

What about the fact that JFK agreed to remove missiles from Turkey in return for the removal of the missiles from Cuba ?

How about the fact that if one mistake was made between the two nations the whole world would of been blown to pieces...

The administration announced a strict naval quarantine of Cuba in which U.S. Navy ships would prevent any further offensive weapons from being delivered to Cuba. (1 Point)

2. President Kennedy said, "It shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear missile launched from Cuba against any nation in the Western Hemisphere as an attack by the Soviet Union on the United States." (1 Point)

3. A blockade was an act of war. (1 Point)

4. For 13 days in late October, the world held its breath. (1 Point)

5. For the rest of the Cold War, the U.S. and Soviet Union never again reached the brink of what would have been a world-altering nuclear conflict. (1 Point)

😂 The compromise embarrassed Khrushchev and the Soviet Union because the withdrawal of US missiles from Italy and Turkey was a secret deal between Kennedy and Khrushchev, and the Soviets were seen as retreating from circumstances that they had started. Khrushchev's fall from power two years later was in part because of the Soviet Politburo's embarrassment at both Khrushchev's eventual concessions to the US and his ineptitude in precipitating the crisis in the first place. According to Dobrynin, the top Soviet leadership took the Cuban outcome as "a blow to its prestige bordering on humiliation".

Let me debunk the photo which is used in this video:
1) No tracks before or behind the trucks
2) tracks stopping abruptly
3) tracks passing under a bent tree
4) A truck blocking another one
5) Missiles shelter too small if compared with the trees around
6) A tree in full middle of the missile erector
And all the other photos are that way, ridiculous!
One has really to be naive to think these photos are authentic!

Turkey missile removal was an UNIMPORTANT detail that you shouldn't remember. Just remember, that the US SAVED THE WORLD AGAIN from* RUSSIAN NUKES.

*(and its own nukes.. but that is another unimportant detail.. so not mentioned)
