Three, two, one. The president is live, announcing to 100 million Americans that there are nuclear weapons in Cuba.

My six-year-old LOVES this channel. Whenever she hears Dan's voice, she runs into the room, and makes me rewind the episode for her. Keep up the great work.

I thought i understood the CMC from school in Canada, but these videos paint so much of a clearer picture. Thank you for making education engaging, memorable and free.

Every time I rewatch this series, I can’t find a more perfect distillation of the lunacy of the time as the line “this isn’t whack-a-mole, it’s sign-language with destroyers”.

How fitting, that a bear nearly started a war with the USSR.

Even though this incident was a lifetime ago, it still sends shudders through me when I think of just how close we came to annihilation.

Ahh, the good ol' nuclear crisis. Great work EC. Perhaps do a video on the 1983 nuclear crisis as well?

Later on in the Bears den...

"Comrades I was spotted, I have failed."

*Over the radio a voice speaks*

"Very well comrade, await further orders"

Fun historical fact: At the same time JFK went live, announcing the missile crisis, a satirical comedy album about kennedy and his family was being recorded in front of a live studio audience. "The First Family." The audience roared and laughed at the numerous digs at the president, unaware of the developing situation occurring right outside their studio. It's a very interesting snapshot of public sentiment of JFK and cold war relations on the day that announcement went out.

You listen to all this and can't help but wonder;

**How did we survive this?**

How are there bears in Cuba?

Edit: I made a mistake, the incident was in the Midwest. Please ignore this mistake.

"There is zero room for error. One slip up will mean the end of humanity."
And that is when I'd be lying on the floor hyperventilating.
That's why I couldn't be president.

US Ambassador to the UN: "Do you deny that the USSR has placed missiles in Cuba? Yes or no?"

Soviet Ambassador: "I am not in an American Courtroom. The US will have their reply later."

US Ambassador, pulling out surveillance photos dramatically: "OBJECTION! THAT TESTIMONY CONTRADICTS THE EVIDENCE!"

*Soviet Ambassador recoils in surprise*
