How to Get Closer to God Again: 6 Practical Steps

We don’t get cold for God, we grow cold towards God. (Matthew 24v12)

1. We don’t drift to God, we draw near to God. (James 4v8)

2. Before you can draw near to God, God draws you near to Himself. (Psalm 65v4; John 12v32; Matthew 15v8)

3. God will not drive you to Himself, He will draw you to Himself.

4. God will draw you near to Himself by conviction of the Holy Spirit. (John 16v8)
Conviction is specific; condemnation is general.
Conviction attacks the issue; condemnation attacks your identity.
Conviction is from the Holy Spirit; condemnation is from the devil.
Conviction gives you hope; condemnation makes you hopeless. Conviction leads to repentance; condemnation leads to remorse.

5. Drawing near to God will require you to walk in the light as He is in the light. (1 John 1v9-10; Psalm 32v3-5)

Sin grows in the dark. Sin seeks out the darkness so its deeds aren't exposed to God or to others (John 3v20)

6. Drawing near to God increases the fear of God and the feeding on God more than the feeling of God.
