Coronavirus Pandemic Update 47: Searching for Immunity Boosters & Possible Lessons From Spanish Flu

As global COVID-19 infections continue to increase rapidly, Dr. Seheult continues his discussion on possible strategies to promote a robust immune system, including a nod to the past with hydrotherapy techniques. Interestingly, these techniques were used during the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918 and there are reports about a significant benefit to patients who participated. Initiating studies or attaining data from randomized controlled trials for techniques practiced in the “pre-antibiotic era” is a challenge.

We've produced each COVID-19 video with the best information we could access at the time of recording. Naturally, some videos will contain information that has become outdated or replaced by better information or research.

That said, we believe each video contains concepts that have enduring value and reviewing how the response to COVID-19 has progressed over time may be of interest to you as well.

When I watch these, I have an irrational fear that Dr. Seheult won't be able to write small enough to fit the space. But he always does... he always does.

As a fellow physician, and retired intesivist/anesthesiologist, I am very impressed with your lectures and the way you set about educating all of us in a concise, easy to understand way regardless of our background. Wish I had had someone like you to teach me when in med school and residency! Well done my friend!

As I'm watching this I just again realize the amount of research that goes into these video's, thank you Doc for doing this and in such a way that even us laymen is able to follow and understand. Been watching from day 1, now I'm in lockdown in Cape Town, South Africa.

This makes a lot of sense. Years ago I went to a Natural Healing clinic in Mexico where they used hot & cold therapy to boost your immune system. You would first get in sauna then take a cold shower & repeat this 3 times. Then they would make us walk barefoot around the patio (I think it’s called grounding) along with other natural therapies. I stayed @ that clinic for about a month and my health was in the best shape it has ever been

Fascinating to see that these methods were used during the Spanish Influenza Pandemic with significant effect. Thank you Dr. Seheult. Your work gives me so much hope. May God bless you.

It's absolutely amazing to see a doctor so open minded to non-conventional thinking. We need more people who think outside the box, like you.

Dr. Medcram, THANK YOU for your beautiful enunciation. As a theatre actor, I cannot tell you how much this is appreciated! Every time I hear you CLEARLY say the T in "immunity" I smile. In informal speech, the word sounds like "immuni-dy". THANK YOU.

I love these videos. I realise the amount of effort you put in everyday but I’m watching every second and I’m sharing the information with my friends who are lost in social media information hell.

This is so interesting. My mother had sarcoidosis in 1968 and her treatment was high doses of ASA and hot and cold contrast baths. I was only 6 at the time and I can remember her crying out during the therapy because it was fairly uncomfortable. They put her in a hoyer lift and would move her from the hot almost scalding water and then in an almost ice cold tub. They would do this several times a day. She is still alive today and now 84 years old. I’m an Infection Preventionist and started as a nurse because I spent so much time visiting my Mom during her hospital stay. She was in the hospital almost 2 months. This to me is fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the world.

One wonders about the tradition of Native American Sweat Lodges. Modern medicine moved on but we too easily leave potential medical jewels behind. The same with indigenous medical traditions around the world. Time for a systematic reevaluation on an allopathic western modality and perspective. Also I might add it is nice to see the ancients like Hippocrates and Galen mentioned in a positive light.
From a production value perspective here is a shout out for excellence on the incorporation of both photos and maps . Good show and excellent production values !

As a retired college teacher (biological science) Dr. Seheult is the best teacher of science related topics I have ever experienced. If he taught at any university I attended I would definitely enroll in every class he taught ... thank goodness for these excellent videos.

I love to listen to you. You are so we'll spoken and a free, logical open minded individual. Keep up the good work.

This is the type of approach modern medicine desperately needs. We are great at medical interventions, but terrible at maintaining good health. Thank you, Dr. Seuhult for being a bright light at the end of a very dark tunnel.

Okay. I'm going to combine this with the idea that it's the period during sleep which has the greatest positive affect on immunity. I'm gonna start tacking a hot bath just before bed. If nothing else, that will make me sleep better.
That + 50mg zinc + EGCG (or quercetin) and days spent out in the sun exercising.
If that doesn't fight the "bat-fever" nothing will!

Thank you for all this research. My entire family contracted the virus and me being 22 years old, i got hit extremely hard and today has been 2weeks and 2 days with it, i have pneumonia still but no more other symptoms. Same with my mom and brother but my father who is 59 years old is in the hospital with a ventilator recovering now.

Please people, be safe out there, this is not a joke and honestly should be seen as extremely dangerous by all people, which i still see people acting careless about this pandemic.
