History Bites: A Conversation with Tom Shippey

Dr. Tom Shippey is the world's greatest scholar on J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings, and actually knew Tolkien towards the end of his life. Since 1982, Dr. Shippey has published multiple groundbreaking books, including J.R.R. Tolkien: Author of the Century and The Road to Middle-earth, which first opened up the world of Tolkien scholarship back in 1982. Dr. Shippey has had a distinguished academic career in the UK and US, teaching at both Oxford and Harvard.

It was fascinating to chat with Dr. Shippey about his long career and his memories of the great J.R.R. Tolkien.
