Agriculture in India faces growing challenges and also presents plenty of opportunities but successive governments have been hesitant to bring reforms fearing political ramifications. Crucial decisions needed to the sector an impetus have been delayed in the fear of losing votes. There has also been a lack of vision. The Modi government has brought about reforms, but has been met with stiff opposition from farmers. They remain firm on their demand to get the new farm laws repealed. As the protests continue, industry bodies representing Indian corporates are worried about the stalemate situation between farmers and the government as it is causing huge losses. The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India has urged the government and farmers' organisations to resolve the impasse. Meanwhile, the CII said the new reforms will improve market access and increase income opportunities for farmers. The industry body added that the reforms are focused on the input side, introducing risk mitigation measures, reducing post-harvest losses and augmenting market opportunities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said farmers were being misled about agriculture reforms and the reforms were exactly what farmer bodies and even opposition parties had been asking over the years. In this edition of the Big Picture we will analyse the need for agricultural reforms.

And also I think more economist, corporate leaders, agricultural scientists must also be invited in this show as to know their perspective.

Disappointed to see a panel only echoing each other. Frank, do consider a more balanced panel the next time.

Dear VP, ORF
MP's were trying to debate the bill in the parliament, more over demanding the bills to be referred to Select committee
BUT we all know what happened there, demands fell on the deaf ears, ruthlessly passed without even division.

Why biased discussion? Where are those golden days of The Big Picture? Sad!

Let's keep farm bills as it is and start discussion on MSP only.

Some good points also. No subsidies should be given to large farmers.

Looks like a government perspective, no one to contradict them . Sir please bring someone from farmer union , a local farmer leader who has the ground level knowledge.
Sitting in ac room having a cup of tea and formal discussion is totally different thing.
Please invite someone to cross question them🙏

I don't stand with the oligopoly of BJP but this time government has brought a array of good legislations. It should be accepted by everyone.

I think more dicussion on MSP is much needed so analyse it's nature.
And also as abhinav sir mentioned that entry corporates is gonna help marginal farmers with non farm wages, I think much more elaborate discussion needs to done on this.

Its a bitter truth that whenever reforms carried out by govt are always opposed. We can take the example of OBC reservation as well and now we are living with that ..

Poor debate: disappointed

Abhinav said: capitalism is good, socialism is bad
Abhinav ended with: protest is being led by rich capitalist farmers.
