Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the Covid-19 situation in the country.

He took stock of the availability of essential medical supplies like oxygen, medicines, and other medical equipment needed urgently in the wake of rapidly rising number of Covid cases.

The three Empowered Groups formed to address these issues briefed the Prime Minister on the steps that are being undertaken to meet the current crisis.

The Empowered Group on oxygen informed about the measures being taken to step up the allocation of oxygen to the states. It said the production of medical oxygen in the country has increased to 8922 metric tonnes from 5,700 MT in August last year…

The Empowered Group working on medical infrastructure and Covid management mentioned about the efforts being undertaken to boost the availability of beds and ICUs as people struggle with an acute shortage of hospital beds.

The Prime Minister directed officials to ensure rapid upgradation of health infrastructure. He also stressed on the need to ensure that specific guidelines and strategies evolved regarding the COVID management need to be properly implemented by the relevant agencies.

On The Big Picture today, we will analyse the various measures that are being undertaken to meet the current massive crisis that we are in due to the second wave of the pandemic…the instructions given by the Prime Minister to ramp up health facilities at the earliest and what more would be required in the days to come to ensure that people do not have to run from pillar to post for essential medicines, oxygen and hospital beds…

How can prof Ganguly say that we were taken off guard whilst whole world was in the middle of pandemic, i think we became overconfident rather some one in the centre became overconfident and the whole country has to suffer because of this.
