1997 was the best year of wrestling. The stories and rivalries were so good. Sad that time flys by so fast. It’s almost 30 years ago. Man. People. Enjoy life. Time as life goes fast.

Hitman is so badass man, the long hair, the wrestling gear, the looks, the style, the attitude and everything in between. When I saw Hitman when I was 7 years old it got me hooked to wrestling lol. Pink and Black attack!

This match gets often overlooked and underappreciatted; i still don't know why, i mean it has always been among my top 5 fav matches in all of wrestling.
Ironically enough this was a main event, and people barely talk about this match.

I always find it awesome for Bret Hart be so credible against bigger guys like Taker or Diesel! he is often praised for his technical ability but he is a great brawler too especially in that year!

People dont talk enough about the importance of this match. So many scenarios were generated from this match.

First and foremost HBK screwing the Undertaker started the genesis of their rivalrty, which included the first ever HIAC match. It also lead to their Casket Match the following year where Shawn hurt his back and went on a four year hiatus, causing him to be absent for the major years of the Attitude Era.

Also this match sparked the debut of DX. Shawn turning heel the next night on RAW and saying "Fuck it" to the WWF was the first sign of the DX moniker.

This match also played a huge role in the debut of Kane. Even though Kane's arrival had been built up while Undertaker was champion in 1997, the rivalry didn't need the title. Once Taker dropped the title, the debut of Kane was kicked into high gear.

And last but not least, this match was the catalyst for the Montreal Screwjob. Even without the events that encapsulated that night, Bret and Shawn were guaranteed to cross paths soon. It was a match that had been building for the majority of the year.

The main event of Summerslam 97 was a pivotal part of the Atttitude Era.

2:40 Taker in his prime hitting the ropes was scary af. I remember when he broke the ropes bcuz he literally would launch his near 7ft 330lb frame into the ropes & hit the flying lariat. It looked like something out of a Batman movie, The Undertaker is one of a kind! 👍👍

I always loved how Bret does his suplexes. He didnt hold them up in the air to show strength but he made it look impactful, like he put all of himself into it.

What a match! This is classic old school wrestling at it's finest. Brett's story telling is first class!! And that chockslam at 2:53?! Fucking savage!! Love the fact that this finish led to the first Hell in a Cell match and debut of Kane! That's some badass booking fr!

Bret vs Taker in 97 was such a great freaking match. Two legends battling it out at the peak of their powers, with both the title and Bret's career on the line, and with Bret's most heated rival as the referee. That match literally had everything you could want.
