Long shrouded in mystery and done by what seemed like magicians, running the rack on a 2 Stroke Detroit Diesel is actually a simple job. It only requires patience and a few tools. In this video we adjust the air gap, injector stroke( rack), idle speed and buffer screw. While there we verify the adjustments of the valves, jake bridges, and injector height. This applies to all mechanical injected 53, 71, and 92 series engines. Please refer to the Detroit

Wow, how did I miss this in your series of great videos? I thought I'd watched them all, but this just popped up in my recommended feed. This is the best, most visible "running the rack" demo video I've seen done. Thanks for taking the time to film and share this.

you should set 1 left and then 1 right to balance the injectors on both banks to set the control at the governor and then set the rest as Damian Frattasio has suggested. You don't need the wedge as I use the .200 thou gauge from Kent-Moore and it sets the gap accurately and saves time for adjusting the governor gap. Just some suggestions from a Detroit mechanic

Went to trade school back in 1973-1974 and my instructor was a total expert on Detroit's. Had no idea that you were super well versed on the 2 stroke. Very different from ONR!! Love it and thank you.

I remember well the busted knuckles on both hands during my 25+ year's as a Diesel Mechanic. I loved the 2 stroke dietroit for what it was.

Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. Tomorrow we seal up the return and pressurize the fuel system to look for my leak. 6v53. Most likely around one of my injectors or supply tubes.

I'll have to look for a video on replacing the blower dog bone. We used to see them once in a while. Brings back a ton of memories on the old 318's

I just discovered your channel, Ivan. Now I have a place to go to renew my knowledge if these 2 strokers. Your explanations are so complete and the audio is so clear. You could drop the music on your other videos though, it is just not necessary.
It's like having someone next to you talking when you are slow-dancing with a beautiful warm chick.

Back off all rack adjustments before setting #1L and #1R injectors to full fuel. Then set remaining injectors to match both #1's.
