I'm so glad I found your channel, you're demystifying my Detriot. My 653 Marine series gets clean fuel, regular oil changes and run all the time. After 7000 hours it starts right up, doesn't smoke, burns and blows a tiny bit of oil, and runs like a clock. Eventually, I'm going to have to do something. Thanks for taking the extra time to make these vids.

I just finished rebuilding a 4-53 from an old Terex loader for my boss to take to his gold mine in Coldfoot. With the help of your videos I was able to pull it off. You have answered many questions I had along with a tremendous amount of additional information. Great video. I'm about to try this on a 57 4-53 that we overhauled. I did one a long time ago and ran the buffer in too far. (the governor was faulty) the engine ran away and scared the crap out of me. luckily I was able to quickly hit a fuel fitting and cut off fuel. I heard they will run away and suck the oil from the crankcase until they self destruct. When they are running right there is nothing like a Detroit Diesel. Thanks for the help. you know your D.D.A.s

thanks for posting this. i suspect my 453t should have a bit more oomph in it than it does. i dont get any power until about 2100 rpms. your video has me wondering how sloppy things are.

In my shop manual it say when your injector follower is fully depressed then ajust your valve
