Physicist Max Tegmark on Life 3.0: What We Do Makes a Difference

Max Tegmark is sometimes referred to as "Mad Max". I am not sure if he is "mad" but I am pretty sure he is very much "fun" Max Tegmark because I had a total blast talking to him about his recent book Life 3.0, the Future of Life Institute, Artificial Intelligence, the Singularity and technological unemployment.

This willingness to do good, creating an institute and then having success with mr. Musk funding the research brings tears to my eyes. LOVE THAT!

Wonderful. I love Tegmark’s down-to-earth attitude, joyful passion for his field, and call for a global responsibility to articulate positive futures.

1:31:10 Can't we use the anthropic principle to predict what the outcome will be? A conscious observer is most likely to find him/herself at a time and place when/where there is the highest number of conscious entities. Doesn't that kind of suggest that I'm writing this comment somewhere near the peak of human population which is going to decline rapidly in the near future? Especially if the intelligence explosion were to occur there would be a significant increase of number of consciousnesses (or amount of matter that becomes conscious). So why am I conscious here and now supposedly few decades before the singularity? Would't I be much more likely to find myself after it if the universe was going to "wake up"? (I hope this is an ancestor simulation. :))

Is there any good forum where these ideas can be discussed?

Max is a gem. only he forgets that the world is run by ego's and money. There are so much hidden schedules, black operations, we, humanity will never win. Talk with Richard Dolan, please...

13:20 "What about space. One of the properties is 3." -- I don't think it is correct to simplify it that much. It's not JUST the numerical property of 3. It is specifically dimensionality of 3. True - it's only an arbitrary name, but the point is it has a specific meaning which you can't leave out. Otherwise I agree with the idea of platonic realism. It's just that maybe this cutting down everything to just numbers is not a correct example to use..

Such an enjoyable conversation! The idea of founding an institute and gathering the people to your living room to brainstorm ideas is so inspiring, yet he even made it to reality. I hope their momentum keeps going. It also helps to have Elon backing you up, which is just the icing on the cake :) Thank you, Max and Nikola!
