How to Get Navigation Voice Directions When Listening to Radio

In this tutorial, I'll be showing you how to listen to your car radio or a CD and still receive Apple Map directions over the speakers. It's a small feature introduced on iOS 7.1, and it'll let you get directions regardless if your device is selected as the primary audio source in your vehicle.

Not sure if things have changed since this video was made, but my maps on my iPhone doesn’t look like his. and when I touch the volume icon it doesn’t open up the settings like he demonstrated in the video.

My problem is that most of gps alps on iPhone the volume is too low. How do I turn it up in most of those alps? Never had that problem with my android. Thanks

Hey ! OMG that’s the closest video to my problem, I hope it’s gonna work. See I have a Honda Civic 2013 and my iPhone is already paired to the car (system, whatever) so everything is cool up to that. What I need to do is get my google maps app. to tell me the directions but it is still ok but I don’t hear the sound. I can use my phone to call somebody or answer it but I have no sound for google maps. 🇨🇦😢 help

Good for iPhone. But what about android phones?

Does not work on my wife's 2013 Rav4. The only time the Navigation program can speak through the car's sound system is when the sound system is playing Bluetooth music from my iPhone 5S. Yes, an old phone. But it works perfectly well on my 2013 Camry.

Hi! I've been looking for days for an answer to my problem. This came really close to an answer but doesn't work since my current day Maps app seems to automatically imply HFP....hands free-ness (Siri voice capability).

It's July 2018....i just bought a new Forester Subaru 2.5 I premium with a Starlink 7.0 infotainment system that I'm still not sure helps more than confuses or hinders my entertainment and navigation experience. I don't have Carplay....and I still don't even know what that is but perhaps in finding out through this dilemma. My goal is simply to be able to listen to SiriusXM radio and to have Siri give direction prompts whenever needed. As long as I am listening to my phones Podcasts through the car requires Bluetooth selection on the car gives directions fine....since Siri works from the Bluetooth on the car and phone. But all he'll seems to break loose when I select Sirius xm instead of bluetooth. I get Sirius xm music fine but no Siri then.

Are you using APPLE Maps or GOOGLE Maps? My Apple maps does not have the option for playing over HFP. Google maps has that.

I have same car with android phone, it simply wont play navigation through car stereo. Calls work perfectly fine, but even with "play voice thru bluetooth" checked the directions dont come through. Android has no option of HFP prompts, at least not on the same setting screen as the play voice through bluetooth option.

Very Helpful & Insightful in 2019, and I'm an Android User. Once my Phone got updated to Android Pie, I lost the ability to hear *Google* *Maps* say anything on my vehicle's speakers anymore. When I saw you select "turn on or allow HFP over Bluetooth" in your Apple iOs settings, I found something similar, in my *Android* Settings for Google Maps that said I could select "Get ETAs when connected to your car's Bluetooth". Think that's gonna work it fine now. I'll be right back with another comment if that didn't do the trick though. Now, I'll do a quickie YouTube Search on how Android Users deal with Google Maps inside their Car, for verification!
