Oaxaca is at the top of our list for a place to stay in Mexico. I love the indigenous cultural influence. I have been 6 times and spent 2 weeks there last year, doing 5 hours a day of Spanish in the immersion school. Recently I spent Christmas there. I love it so much: the art, color, architecture, food, museums, shopping, lovely people, climate.

$450.00 dollar rentals, if they exist, that I believe is more now, it's about $8775.00 pesos in real time. Before the boom of foreigners moving to Mexico, the rents were more than half less of that. What that means? That the local people cannot afford those rents and are being forced to move out. The salaries in Mexico were increased double with the present administration, but even with the increase $450. dollars is too much for them. Secondly. Mexico still suffers for plenty of water. The government is working on building reservoirs to supply the demand for water. Local people have on top of their homes containers of water storage for drinking and daily shores needed that are delivered to their homes twice or 3 times per week. The prices for renting or buying homes have skyrocketed in Mexico since Covid when people moved there from U.S., Canada and Europe. A tourist doesn't suffer the small supply of water because he is in a hotel and as customer can waste as much water as he can. So my advice. Wait until plenty of water is available!

We just returned from a week in Oaxaca City. We loved it. When my husband retires we will definitely come and stay for 3 months to get away from the winter in Ontario Canada.

@16:15 Colorado. My flight leaves in less than two weeks to Oaxaca. I have booked a room for two days and contacted one contact about the possibility for a nice apartment. (according to what I know). It will cost about $750.

Thanks for your insight and inspiration😀

I spent almost a month in Oaxaca in January (72F daily). I stayed in Centro the whole time and ventured out from there. I walked almost everywhere including la doctora (from eating too much delicious food), la lavandería, y los mercados. Seeing so many places that I visited when I was there really brings me back, for example, the Zocolo, Monte Alban, Hierve al Agua, and even the exact Ancestral Palenque (mezcal distillery), called "Mezcal el Sonador" that you show in this video. In their tasting area, they have a "muro de memorias" that all visitors sign (including me :) You absolutely did justice to this extraordinary city. I would like to return during Guelaguetza. Thank you so much for your dedication to showcasing this remarkable city and state.

Mariana, this is by far the best video MRG has ever made. It is practically a documentary on everything Oaxaca. Thank you for preparing and sharing such a comprehensive Oaxacan guide with us even though I’m sure this barely scratches the surface.
