How To Quickly Patch a Ripped Motorcycle Seat. and Will it Last?

I got a small tear in the seat of my TW200 when I was trying to ride up this rock and failed. I didn't have a lot of time so I decided to use a Masta Plasta patch. It was easy to install but will it hold up over time? Let's find out.

Disclaimer: work on your bike at your own risk. You are solely responsible for your own actions. Always use proper safety equipment for the job.

It did start to peel after 1000 miles so probably not worth it if the tear is in a high wear spot.

update: the patch didn't hold, peeled all the way off, mainly because it's right where my leg rubs constantly

Just thought I would share an exciting TW experience.
My 2005 TW was really cold natured and only did 45 to 50 mph.
I saw carburetor on amazon for $36.99 and gave it a shot.
The bike starts easy! I can turn choke off after only a short warm up, and it was at 67 mph and climbing when I chickened out.
It is AWESOME!
I don't know anything about the specs on that carb but it has turn my TW into a pleasure to ride.
Love all your videos, keep them coming. Thanks,
Jeff

I did some welding as a senior in high school in 1976 oh that tells you how old I am. it was welding two bolts together so I could put a bigger carburetor on my 1975 Suzuki ts185 it worked well but that's the only welding I've ever done I want to learn how to weld too looking forward to your welding videos

Yes keep producing content, you are the reason I bought my tw200 and I look forward to your videos! Looking forward to that welding video

I love my seat concepts seat. It has changed the way I plan rides. With the old seat, going more than 40 miles would really bite me in the ass, but now I can ride as long as I like. I wish I would have upgraded it first thing.

I LOVE my titanium welder! My welds don't look pretty due to my skill, but making metal stick to metal has never been so easy. I tried other flux core migs in the past, they always had wire feed problems. I've done many projects with my titanium welder, for $200 it is amazing. I can weld stuff up so fast now. It is easy to get a feel for the settings. I've put more than a full roll of wire through it without any issues.

Maybe a round patch would have held better. No corners to catch the fabric of your pants. Good luck with the repairs.

As much as I respect the fact that you are going to drive that thing into the ground, I think you have earned yourself the possibility of a new one! Would love to see that video! You could do a go fund me page. I’d throw 100 down. The videos mean that much to me and my son. Keep them coming.

A flux core welder can be used, but be careful, its going to throw sparks everywhere. Cover anything you dont want burned within a 5' radius with wet towels. As for the welding itself. Clean the metal really well then after finding a heat setting that doesn't burn through the metal, but creates a bead that kind of looks "part of" the parent material, not sitting up on top of it. Don't follow what everyone will tell you with the little circles feed technique, it's far too hard to make look good. I've found in my 1000s of welding hours that a feed-pause-feed system works best. This will be far easier to learn. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Looking forward to seeing how the learning process on the welding went. My TW and DR both have Harbor Freight cheap texture floor mats cut out to fit the sides of the tank. Looks silly, but sure protects the tanks from minor bumps and heavy scrapes.

Good luck with your frame repair. And keep the videos coming.

i highly recommend getting a can of anti-spatter spray. you spray it on the the surrounding metal so metal beads don't stick and it makes the weld look cleaner. my cheap wire welder looks almost like a mig weld with that spray

Do a video on the welding please! I've got a couple stress fractures cracks on my bike as well that I'd really like to get fixed. I bought a Harbor Freight welder several months ago but I've just never gotten around to doing it. From what I've read you need to be careful though because the heat from welding can make the steel lose it's tempered hardness causing it to weaken the metal overall. I've seen some say tack welds are better than doing an entire line because of this.

When welding do spots, do one on the left side of the crack then one on the other then go back next to the first then back next to the second until covered or that thin steel will get too hot and will blow through, then just grind smooth and paint . Had to do the same on my XR .

Yeah, I've found patches to only be temporary. Better to just recover the seat. I would weld that crack too and it should be fine. As for the tank, I would look for a good used replacement. Just my opinion, but I've never been a fan of filling dents with Bondo, unless there is no other option.
