Thank you for solving a problem that has been bugging me for years. I distinctly remember as a 9 year old kid seeing a Windows 95 IBM Aptiva with animated desktop icons in a shop. I also remember the extra effects that happened on that desktop when launching icons and moving windows. Then I was gutted that my PC at home couldn't do that despite having far superior specifications :D

I have been looking long since I can remember for that piece of the puzzle which gave all those enhacements. Today, your demo finally solved that problem! THANK YOU! :)

This is so comforting. The only thing to "complete" the experience would be the screech of the dial-up modem.

Those were great times. I lost too many friends from Microsoft Chat and AOL Chat, and I never recovered what was back then. Maybe a time travel back would help.

Its one of those fancy ones where after you click shutdown you don't need to wait for it to ask you to press the power button. It just shuts down automatically.

I don’t have any windows 95 machines, but I do have a pair of windows 98 computers: a laptop and a desktop

That is a nice IBM Aptiva. I once had an earlier model that my dad got brand new in 1995 that had a sliding door with Windows 95 RTM (original release) preinstalled. That was my first ever computer (and my first ever Windows version I have ever used, since I missed out on Windows 3.1). I later found out by 1998 (when I was in second grade), that my school computers had additional screensavers (the 3D OpenGL screensavers), and I used to play around with them for fun, but I got in trouble. 😆 I later realized that Windows 95 was released around 1996 with the OSR2 update, (and thus the 3D OpenGL screensavers that I always liked) and the computer I had was the original release of Windows 95 (without the 3D OpenGL screensavers).

Oh yeah it's 1996 but you have Flight Simulator 98. Time traveler indeed!

Mosaic tile the background images for me once, would ya?! 😆🥰 I miss Quest for Glory II, Battle Chess & those early AOL downloadable shareware games 👨‍💻

I want to go to 1996 with you. But I don’t have a Windows 95 computer.

LOL in 1996, I was so anti-Winblows. I refused to let any of my PCs run it or MSDOS (and yes I'm aware that winblows 95 still ran on top of dos 7 eventhough you couldn't exit it).

Oh man... the disc drive, the floppy drive... the sound of the hard drive; two buttons on the mouse. I wish I still had the PC I grew up with, I never was a nerd enough to know parts back then, but I was able to put a cd burner into it as a second drive with no youtube lmao - only downside, I had to rip the cd to my hard drive first and then I could burn a cd without it skipping; no straight-cd-to-burn feature for me =(
Winamp ftw - I had maybe 8 skins preset XD
Just enough room for the first Starcraft - if I deleted Duke Nukem 3D first =(
RIP 1996-2003

I'm privy to the safari theme, the jungle tunes hitting me as that mountain lion appeared is just all sorts of nostalgia to me. Windows 98.

Dude. I had the exact same IBM pc. Playing games on it was super laggy but at least it was something.

I wanted an Aptiva so bad in 1996 but had to settle for a Digital Starion P100 PC which I loved and had lots of fun with. Then I learned how to build my own Socket7 PC a few years later and I never bought another pre-built PC again. 😁

It's nice to see this computer run at 800x600 resolution rather than 640x480. Also, I wonder if there were any similar IBM Aptiva computers that ran OS/2 Warp 3 or OS/2 Warp 4 instead of Windows 95 considering that OS/2 was an IBM operating system.
