Face Tapping: Why It’s Not a Substitute for Botox

Face tapping, a technique involving gentle tapping or massaging motions across the face, has gained popularity for its relaxing and circulation-boosting effects. While it may improve skin's blood flow and temporarily reduce puffiness, it is not a substitute for Botox. Botox works by targeting and relaxing specific muscles to reduce dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and frown lines, which face tapping cannot achieve.

Face tapping may enhance skincare absorption and support lymphatic drainage, but its effects are surface-level and temporary. Botox, on the other hand, provides long-lasting results (typically 3-4 months) by directly addressing the muscle activity that causes wrinkles over time. For those seeking significant wrinkle reduction and skin smoothing, Botox remains the gold standard. Face tapping can be an excellent complement to a skincare routine, but it won't replace the efficacy of neuromodulators.

I do it every single night and have been doing it for months. No contact dermatitis and my wrinkles are softer.

I will say that the nitto* brand of kinesio tape genuinely has helped my skin’s appearance so much. I have stubborn frown lines and hEDS. Botox doesn’t work with my anatomy the same way it does in someone with normal collagen. I get large fascial adhesions above my frontalis muscles. That tape is the only thing that works for me . I say this after spending thousands of dollars in botox from a facial anatomy specialist plastic surgeon. Even with his expertise and follow ups we weren’t able to reduce the lines . KT is the only thing thats helped so …I would not discount this for everyone. There will always be patients who are zebras not horses and generalizations can be dangerous.

*Corrected typo on the face tape brand. Olga with the natural faces sells this type if anyone is interested. Im not affiliated but she sells the type that is made in Japan and made for delicate facial skin :)

I use medical tape and no longer do Botox. I already had contact dermatitis to several things and medical tape has never bothered me.

Of course it’s not the same as Botox, you are not injecting neurotoxin

I’m looking for an alternative to botox for my forehead. I’m only 23 but I’ve got 2 deep wrinkles in my forehead. I can’t afford botox and don’t want to start so early either, I don’t necessarily believe in “preventative botox” for me because it’s already there. Is there any way to get rid of them? I’m actually talking about real wrinkles too, not just fine lines. My life has been quite fxcked so I’ve been looking like “🤨” alot the last few years and it seems it stayed.

I use a product on my elevens. I forgot the name of it. They are triangle shaped. I use them every night. It helps soften the elevens. I also get Botox. I am 67
