100% agree. I stopped reading a few months back and now that I'm getting back to it and practically have to teach myself to read again 🙈 I did the exact same thing. Chose a smaller book on purpose + it's a type of book I would normally like + I chose a nice edition which was a pleasure to read from. And I've done it. Finished the first complete book after 3.5 months of almost not reading at all.

I love this advice! Short books are my favourites, they are so easy to read and if you don’t like them they are soon over. Perfect for a slump as well. I find big books so off putting! Libraries are the absolute best thing ever! 😊📚

I set myself a time to finish, depending on the length. Doesn't matter when I read, just that I do in time to finish. Usually a couple hours before work and again in the evening unless I am going out.

If I dont like it early on I toss it and start something else. Life is too short to waste..

Because of the books we had as required reading in school I thought I hated reading books, and that the only exception was Warriros Cats(and few other fantasy books). However, I got into manga, then fanfiction and then into Light Novels.

Now I try to read the books I missed out on as a kid. Seriously, I had the first Artemis Fowl book since I could remember, never read it, though. I regret that, I would have loved the book and could have borrowed the sequels from the library I was a part of. I decided that I will read the 'Artemis Fowl' books on Sundays, while reading 'His Dark Materials' during the week(since I do like the books, but I prefer a more whimsical/funny writing style, or whatever Good Omens writing style is)

Even for me who enjoys reading, I generally pick books less than 300/350 pages. Because I know that whenever life hits me (and I’ve been bombarding myself with huge books), I just go into a slump.
Also unpopular opinion, but MANY books that are humongous just need intense editing — INTENSE! 🌚

In terms of short books definitely don't go for The Crying of Lot 49 to start.
