Also I once was in a 717 and the pilot landed a bit to fast and braked so hard I almost slid out of my seat (not very good seatbelts) and we had to wait at Southampton airport for 2-3 hours since the door to the baggage was stuck because of the hard braking
I felt bad for the poor 717 as I saw a bit of smoke come from the bottom of the plane because of how hot the brakes were

They needed a 3rd engine (on the tail) mounted backwards for a situation like this. I wonder if they could actually get that to work... probably not. Maybe more air brakes. Why don't they have a parachute, kinda like the Space Shuttle has, which could be deployed for emergencies only?
