I pray to God I’ll never end up in a fight against a knife-wielding/cutting weapon-wielding assailant. That has to be one of the most terrifying experiences in life. As someone said, there are no winners in a knife fight.

The karambit has an intimidation buff.

I agree with the karambit being inferior to a regular knife of the same length when it comes to a knife fight, but there are a few things going for it in terms of a self defence weapon:
1) it's a fixed blade and thus faster to deploy
2) it usually still fits into pockets and unlike folders (even with clip) it's faster to draw thanks to the ring (clips tend to move and can entangle in folds)
3) while there's an entire art to using a karambit, it's very easy to use it on an instinctual level as jabs, hooks and hammerfists translate to thrusts, slashes and stabs.

God, I LOVE The Man From Nowhere! Single handedly got me interested in Korean cinema, and I'm eternally grateful. And that knife fight was so epic! If you're reading this comment and you haven't seen The Man From Nowhere, get on it! It's a great action flick, with characters that are well written and worth rooting for.

The Man From Nowhere is so underseen. Such a solid, slow-burn with an epic finale.

The Man from Nowhere was one of the first foreign live-action movies I’ve ever watched and it’s a favorite to this day! Thanks for the knife review!

That man took out the karambit thinking he was him but he gave himself a massive disadvantage

Loved this movie, and I’m glad you got more in depth with the knives used in this scene

I think the karambit can be held with the point forward so its reach will match a normal knife's- the wielder just has to put his pinky in the retention ring, instead of his index finger. Of course, switching grips won't be as easily done as with a normal knife, but that's a necessary tradeoff for the stronger grip a retention ring offers.

Interesting take! I would’ve thought the karambit would be deadlier but thanks for this

Always happy to see this movie get some well deserved attention. If anyone hasn't seen it YOU NEED TO! Also, I highly recommend No Tears for The Dead. I still need to see Lee Jeong-beom's first move, Cruel Winter Blues.
