How to Lash a Blade to a Handle

Lashing a blade to a handle is easy with this technique. I learned this from a Tlingit woodcarver in the Yukon, in 2002. He made all his own tools, including the metal blades. I asked him to show me how he held blade to handle, and he showed me this technique.

I have used this in a number of different applications, not just tool making. You should learn this lashing technique and practice it.

Once you've done it a few times, you will never forget how to lash a blade to a handle or how to lash any two objects together.

Cheers!

Honestly, I’ve never known how to do this and consequently as a child, my spears were always falling apart. I was dying to know the method I could see on potato peelers but couldn’t see how they got the ends tucked under the coil. Many thanks 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧

After commenting on your tapering ‘jig’ I checked out your channel and found this. This is exactly the way some other poster lashed a fish hook. I’ve probably seen it on those paracord hack videos as well. I love the to the point shorts but not so much the fail compilation shorts on YouTube with a bucket of cleavage in the thumbnail. I wish the shorts thumbnails had the duration on the thumbnail so I know how much time I might be wasting. It’s Interesting how quickly posters respond to my comments on years old videos.

Anyone know a good tutorial for lashing a blade at a 90 degree angle? I want to make a scythe with my brothers of bushcraft TOPs knife. I know the blade is much shorter than a real scythe but it could still be useful at harvesting large amounts of grass quickly for shelter building.
