Just get the ST170 and mod it. No diff and more compliant ride. Lot cheaper too. Or a newer Fiesta ST.

To be fair the reason why the diff worked so well isn't because Ford had reinvented the wheel. Its because they paired the diff with large sticky tyres. The RS was lightweight. Above all that the car had "only" 212bhp. No self respecting front wheel drive hothatch, North of 2010 would get out of bed for 212bhp. Ford made lightweight, big tyres, a diff and "just" enough power work. Fair play to them. Nothing was groundbreaking.
