Of course in reality Clarkson is just joking, but it's worth mentioning that most astronauts are incredible badasses as well as being geniuses.
Michael Collins (my personal hero) was considered the only pilot alive who could perform the redocking maneuver of the lunar lander with the orbiting module on the Apollo 11 mission (which is why he had to stay in orbit and couldn't descend to the moon himself). Neil Armstrong, despite being considered one of the greatest test pilots to ever live, couldn't perform the maneuver.
Quite frankly, the list of achievements of any astronaut puts almost everyone else to shame
