Competitive CSGO on CS 1.6 Maps

We played a game of Competitive Counter-Strike on the original Counter-Strike 1.6 maps, taking us back 20 years to the beginning of time itself. How would modern competitive mechanics and mindset affect gameplay on the original dust2, nuke, and train?

Love seeing these OG maps again, with all their nostalgia and impracticality.

8:49 "I expect we will be playing dust2..." - Valve took that personal.

You should also play the old maps that most people don't know like de_chateau, de_piranesi, de_prodigy and the old original de_cbble

It's amazing how these graphics will always feel like home.

I played 1.6 like 18k hours, I was a demon as a kid. Loved seeing the maps again, it feels just like yesterday!

I absolutely love that OG maps really havent changed that much, they evolved just enough to make them more player friendly and easier on the eyes

I like how Tdan is only a problem when he’s on the opposite team

@4:55 That's just the particle bug. You can trigger it in multiple ways.

1: Extinguish a molotov with a smoke.
2: Throw a grenade in the smoke
3: Resmoke the same spot just before the first smoke fades away.

Far as I can tell from the short clip, this was a resmoke. So it w3as the particles from the first smoke evaporating that makes the second smoke see through.

Wanted to say extra thanks for this trip down memory lane. I kinda want to go play some 1.6 now. Maybe even see if I can do a pug

Man, I enjoyed playing 1.6 with all those different mod-ed servers, and with different sound effects.
My favorite mod was "Warcraft 3 Mod", where you could choose a race with different abilities. (Dude, I loved the ORC nades)

And I remember many servers would have special music/sound effects. Like I remember many servers where if you were the last person alive, they'd play part of a song that'd go "I am the one and only." Ah, the good old days...

4:54 it's because directx9 + csgo's ambient occlusion shader. there's a setting in the nvidia control panel (the old one, not geforce experience) which you can modify to fix that (Ambient Occlusion).

It's amazing how familiar I am with these maps. I could draw every detail of these maps on paper right now without even failure. I loved to play 1.6 back in the days. More then I love csgo

I'm surprised and also saddened by the fact none of your teammates have played the OG CS.

This has to be one of my favorite videos yet! Your commentary on the maps, how they developed, and specific nuances for each was incredibly interesting. Keep it up bro

5:53 "Graphics don't really matter at all. Visuals should only serve to augment the gameplay. A game designer has failed when the visuals get in the way of the gameplay." YES! THANK YOU!

Perfect timing with that dust 2 comment at the end...

Don't know if this version of nuke is 100% faithful to 1.6, but at 6:55 you actually should be able to go through this obstacle and go down unharmed and even go to the other side.
