How do you know if your irons are the correct length? If you take a few minutes to watch this video we show you the simple measurement that will allow you to know if your irons are too long or too short.

What is The Golf Paradigm (Pair-a-dime)?
The Golf Paradigm is a theory that encompasses a Whole-In-One approach to improvement. It begins with the overall paradigm; i.e. the game of golf. Followed by two parts that are always to remain in balance; i.e. the golf yin/yang - ‘improving’ and ‘enjoyment’. Helping to maintain that balance are the 5 elements of the game; the swing, club fitting, health/fitness, mental, and integration. Knowing which area to focus on and how the other areas supplement that helps to form the golfers ‘recipe’ for improvement. As the golfer improves their recipe, or what is focused on, changes and this is what allows them to reach levels of play they never thought possible. It’s not magical, but it’s close.

The Golf Underground is for those that want to know the How, What, and Why? It's like 'Alice in Wonderland' where Alice was asked if she wanted the red pill or the blue pill. But…be careful which one you choose because the rabbit hole of information may go deeper than you're willing to go.

The measurement is based on a 28" knuckle measurement on the ruler equating to a 37" #6i
For every 1" above 28" (measured on the ruler) you will add +1/4" to the length of a 37" #6i
For every 1" below 28" (measured on the ruler) you will subtract -1/4" from the length of a 37" #6i
(a) (b) (c)
36" +2" 39"
35" +1.75" 38.75"
34" +1.5" 38.5"
33" +1.25" 38.25"
32" +1" 38"
31" +0.75" 37.75"
30" +0.5" 37.5"
29" +0.25" 37.25"
28" 0" 37"
27" -0.25" 36.75"
26" -0.5" 36.5"
25" -0.75" 36.25"
24" -1" 36"
23" -1.25" 35.75"
22" -1.5" 35.5"
21" -1.75" 35.25"
20" -2" 35"

Being on the 5’6” and shorter armed set this is a great starting point to adjust my club lengths! Thanks boss.

You measured yourself to 33." And proceed to explain as if had been 28." And then it got real confusing. One of the worst explanations of anything I ever heard.

I adjusted the length of my graphite-shafted irons according to your explanation and found my timing and contact was much better and more consistent. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I'm getting my irons fitted this weekend. Looks like I need them lengthened based on my measurements. Can't wait to see the difference it makes.

HI Great Info!!! If my 6 Iron is a Cobra F7 and the shaft is graphite and is 38 inches uncut according to specs. My Knuckle measurement is 25.5 in. Do I use 38'' as my normal according to your post, or should I still use 37? Cobras iron distances are 3/4'' between clubs. this per their cut sheet. Thanks for help.

Where did you figure out that 28 inch = 37 inch 6 iron? I am exactly 28 inches and currently have 37.5 in 6 iron. Choked up .5 and hit way better shots. Thanks!

The standard number is 28 so if you measure 28 standard club as are your fit. go above that add a ¼ of an inch per inch below that number -¼ per inch. So me 30 which is 2 inch difference add .5 to club

This what I use to check my ball contact. Spray face of club with foot powder.this will not change how ball hits club face. But it is 100 percent accurate on ball contact with face of club.

This is only a static measurement. Everyone stands differently to the ball. Agree this is a good start point.

Hello, quick question. If i am striking the ball high on the club face would this be the result of my clubs being too long or too short? Thanks for the helpful video

While building a set, is the length found from this measurement taken to end of club before gripping? Or end of grip cap after install?

Where can one find the conversion table for other clubs? I'd like to build a club based on these specs.

I believe most of today's irons, the 7-iron is 37" while the 6-iron is 37.5". So you're saying if 28 on ruler your #6 should only be 37"...which would mean a 1/2" reduction on most of today's irons?

Hi Pete, that's an interesting explanation; do you use a similar logic work when you fit for driver lengths ?
