And this is why you're the best golf channel, data, analysis, course vlogs, livestreams, discord for members and members only livestream, you do so much behind the scenes that we have no clue about either, thanks for being awesome guys

Love the techy detail, I can only hope that at a future fitting I meet a fitter that understands this. Way to often, shop assistants in big golf stores are selling brands not expert advice. Top job guys 👍

ok, I'm thoroughly confused... I would have expected more upright to = more left miss. I didn't account for the lie angle being more upright also = shorter club. Applicability for me is that I tend to miss left with all my clubs except my 7i. I thought I was probably in need of a more upright lie angle on the 7i and flatter on the rest to move that back to the center but... I'm going to watch this again to see what I missed.
EDIT: I forgot we are looking at a lefty and the strike/flight logic is back-asswards... ignore my previous comment... I'll be over in the corner eating glue.

This channel is the benchmark for all other channels when it comes to stats, data, explanations, and humsn robot golf swings!! Best

When I was a "handle raiser, " I was fitted 2* upright and a 1/4" long shaft. I must've stopped raising the handle through the years, as I started hitting the ball out on the toe. Now I understand why (latest fitting showed standard lie, standard length). Ian's explanations are excellent, and Matt often fills in with relevant questions and insights. Thank you.

Just watched this again in January 2023 after watching some very technical videos by Cowx. Love the techy stuff as you put it even though I am an 81 year old 16-17 handicapper. The nice thing about golf is you can never stop learning if you want to. Some of these factors no doubt apply to every sport where you swing a club or bat or raquet, but for sure they do in golf. One other element, as if there weren't already enough, is that the bend profile of the shaft can make a difference in all these elements, that is, same weight shaft by where one has a high or mid kick point while the other has a low kick point.

You do realize (I'm sure you do) that the vast majority of golfers can't feel the difference in swing weights up to 1 or 2 points. That was a study that was done at one time. I agree with everything you said about the lie angle changing the SW and also the lie angles making a huge difference in your ball flight.

Great stuff Ian/Matt.... Makes me think about my iron setup. I play Mizuno MP-5s +3/4 Std Loft/Lie. I am a 3.7 hdcp, std iron shot is slight draw, and I'm confident up through 8-iron, fairly consistent center face contact with desired RtL shot shape. Now when I step to 7-6-5, my draw gets out of control at times. Seem like I am toe up, and hit more toe shots than center on bad swings, I'm thinking length is ok, but I feel I have to play my hands higher at address and impact to control shot shape, and I don't like this. So I feel I need the 7-6-5 bent progressively flatter to match my setup positions similar to my 8-iron (but how much??). Thanks in advance!! TXG, is my favorite YTChannel, hands down!! Learned from Bradley Hughes about the importance of lie angles. He recommends going as flat as you can hit properly. The flatter the club is the less the face rotates left and right when you rotate the shaft, it just points more up and down. Picture a club with 0° lie angle vs one with a 90° lie angle, rotate the shaft and see what the clubface does. A 0° lie angle the clubface can never point left or right, it can only point up or down vs a completely upright club if you rotate the shaft the clubface turns left or right drastically. Hit drivers off your knees and you’ll find it is very hard to hit it offline. Cheers

Great vid for those of us who can’t get to your fitting sessions and are stuck with non-professional fitters 👍

As a beginner, I'm hitting both left and right still. This analysis seems better suited for golfers with a consistently same swing. Only then it appears a swing could be efficiently narrowed down to what lie really works for them.

Personally, I love the tech-y side. It's the main reason I'm subscribed here.

Very confident I could out-fit 90% of big box fitters just from following this channel. Outstanding.

This was so dense with useful information in helping me really grasp the relationship between lie angle, face angle, club length, club swing weight, and where the ball impacts the face that I had to pause the video and make notes in 6 different places and watch the video a half dozen times The reason is thanks to this channel I actually have the confidence to do my own fitting and club customization. I have son Mizuno 921 Tours, and purchased some KBS Tour 119g Regular flex black nickel finish iron shafts that I will be cutting, gripping, and swing weighting them. Then, I will be taking them to a golf shop to do the lie angle adjustments.

I never would have thought a month ago that I would have enough knowledge and understanding to do my own fitting. Thank you so much for sharing knowledge about the nuances of how one factor effects another and all combine to create different results. I was educating myself for a fitting, and ended up so educated that I decided to do it myself only because I am under financial duress. Thanks again, I really appreciate your channel and will do everything I can to support your work by sharing.

These guys really give an in depth, more scientific explanation on every subject they make videos on. I really enjoy them. I think a fitting with them would be well worth the cost.

Awesome, even you guys found a gem for matty while making this, I would never have thought lying down angle creates more swing weight but it totally makes sense being slightly longer, . 👍🏻
