This is easily the most aggravating piece of hardware I've ever encountered in PC building

Unlike the other five videos I watched about installing intel heat sinks you actually specified "PRIME THE PUSH-PINS." Which is the single most important piece of information when installing these heat sinks. If the pins are locked when you start they won't go in no matter how hard you push.
Even with this information three of my pins would not go through no matter how hard I tried and trust me I pushed very hard.
What I ended up doing was popping the black caps off each pin so that only the translucent cylinders were left attached to the heat sink. Without the black pin in the middle the white tips clipped through the mobo easily. Then I popped the black caps back on one by one (from the locked position - screw driver slot perpendicular to the heat sink).
I don't recommend this solution but it worked for me. A couple of the black caps were tough to get off but none of them broke. The first one actually fell off on it's own from all my torquing - which gave me the idea to begin with.

I hope other CPU coolers aren't this obnoxious to install because I'm genuinely sick of this one.

I install various air coolers and AiOs with different mounting mechanisms without the manual but these shitty push pin coolers can be really finicky sometimes..

Took me a few minutes just to say "f it amma look it up"

The pins make 2 clicks each - one loud one when it seats, and a second quiet one when the black plastic locks in. I know every manufacturer tells you to only install the cooler when the mobo is mounted to the case, but these ones are a sketchy pain to get right when you can't see the backside to make sure they're seated right. I've personally always just assembled them out of the case and had no problems.

This really helped me out - for some reason I always struggled with this but now I just did one the right way and it was easy! Thanks.

Thanks! Needed this for a PC build at school. We have to stick with the stock cooler unfortunately.

So I’m taking apart my very first build rn from 2011ish - I used a hyper 212 evo as the original cooler but I always kept the stock intel cooler. Haven’t used this pc in a long time so I don’t have thermal paste, I wonder if the stock thermal paste from the intel cooler is still good lol

Can I ask for what reason is turning the pins first counterclockwise needed if you then return them to the position in wich they are ready to be popped back into the holes?

My black pins seemed to be in a lower position than yours, so I had to push them back up again with a screwdriver, and then prime them as you did in this video.

The Intel boxed CPU cooler feels kinda *not* firmly installed at all, even though all four pins click into place and the black "bolt" forces the pins apart exactly as it should be. I just had to replace my fractal Kelvin CPU cooler with one of these (hopefully only temporarily) because the fractal's pump started dying and I used the same kind of thermal paste in both cases, but the quality of the boxed cooler's mounting seems way worse. I barely had to apply any pressure to click them in, the heat sink seems flush with the CPU but it's far from a tight fit. Temperatures are rather erratic too compared to the water-based cooling. At least the latter one's got a backplate and metal screws.

Why do the tops of the knobs have an arrow and what does the arrow mean? I thought such a simple thing would be answered here.

Concise and correct.
Might be a good idea to push opposite corners at the same time.

I have the same cooling system and intel i7 processor. Can I upgrade my PC with i9 processor without changing cooling system?

I'm going to build a computer for myself eventually, probably next year, so I wanted to already learn how to put everything together, the tutorial I had watched was for AMD CPUs so I searched for an Intel tutorial, and then I found this beautiful tutorial with this guy's deep voice. 10/10 subscribed.

what would happen per say if u lost the transclusent part/ if=t fell off

This is very helpful; if you insert it forcefully the wrong way the plastic pins break and the whole thing becomes useless, so it has to be done right the first time.

Now what should i do i broke the 3 pins while properly inserting it . :(
