my advice:

don’t worry about what others will think about you bc if we’re being honest, nobody really cares more abt anyone rather than themselves (im not saying they’re selfish but they are busy worrying about themselves to worry about you). No one goes to bed at night thinking abt how “weird” you are! just be yourself, take care of yourself.

Have your grades be above average, and focus more on your social life. I have a friend who was at the top of our class since Elementary and he has a lot of regrets. Even me when I'm in the lower top 10. Me feeling good about being "smart" was only temporary, and the memories that I have today of my highschool life are the moments I spent with my classmates and schoolmates. I can't even remember the Happiness or Grief that I felt when I knew my exam scores. Join clubs, try the sport that you love even if you suck af it, join the music band even if you have stage fright, be in journalism even though you dont know half of what you are writing, be in the student council to build your leadership skills. Experiences like these come with skills and life lessons. Some of them may look small but they will compound eventually. School is a place of rapid growth and development, and is the Prime moment of most people. Highschool is truly as great and cool, dramatic, exciting, fun, sad, nerve-racking, tiring, irritating, furiating even, as movies/tv shows depict it to be, even if it doesn't feel like it in the first place. Now that I look at it, it truly was fun. My biggest regret was that I took it for granted. 6 years felt so long at the time and now it was too short. That's my take on that, but if you are aiming for a prestigious school, or a field that requires high grades, i guess there's no other choice than to be an exceptional student. But always remember, take everything at your own pace. People's expectations can creep up on you and can force you to make rash decisions. Take your time, and do everything one step at a time. Having high grades but at the expense of your happiness and knowing your identity and worth as a person is not worth it.

This was supposed to be an advice, but it became too personal. Kinda like me opening up. I guess I do hold my high school life close to my heart.

It doesn’t matter what others think about you. These people won’t be with you when you graduate. Always trying to fit in makes you lose yourself. Who cares what you dress like, what hobbies you like or don’t. If it won’t matter in 3 years, don’t waste more than 3 minutes worrying about it.

High school student here (American junior to be specific) personal advice for the freshies coming in would be…
1) try out different clubs that you find interesting. My freshman year was online so I missed out a lot of opportunities to make friends and test my interests :(
2) don’t completely blow off academics and grades, sure there are some subjects you might suck at but at least make an effort.
3) at the same time, don’t over work yourself, leave time for you. You can’t be in 5 APs and 6 different clubs and still come home at the end of the day all well and good. Take the time to relax
4) THIS IS THE TIME TO LEARN HOW TO STUDY!!! I have always had problems studying (don’t do it half the time) but it’s a good skill to develop!!
5) find the balance between social life, academic life, and self life (idk like at home typical stuff like laundry and showers idk bro)
6) I forgot to what I was saying…
7) OH WAIT yea, I’d recommend not dating in high school it’s just like ew you’re literally 14 and your never see your bf/gf/so after graduation. shut up you have better things to do that worry about how he/she/they/idk anymore thinks about you. I’ve had al

Graduated recently. Talk to your teachers when you need, dont be afraid to do so. They more than likely deal with whatever you need help with a lot. Also, most likely not every friend you make is going to last a life time, so when your friendship has run its course, dont be too distraught. Its great that we can meet anyone and connect when our lives make sense to be around one another, and wonderful when we can tell when we have to split off- take those experiences youve had with them and carry them with you. Also you dont need all A+s, do your best and complete your work early

Nah I just started high school and it sucks so far. It’s not the people or anything it’s just that I have so much work it’s overwhelming and if I don’t get all A’s I’m useless and feel like I deserve to suffer. I have to be top 10% or else I’ll feel super disappointed in myself.

Be careful who you surround yourself with!! If you’re someone who cares deeply about doing well academically, make friends who have the same goals and aspirations. If you’re passionate about a certain subject or activity, hang out with people who have the same interests. Don’t waste your time on the people who seem cool but drain you, always seem to need your help, and/or criticize the stuff you enjoy. They don’t care about you and are possibly trying to take advantage of you.

I also just started high school, if you're having a hard time finding friends just start saying hi to random people, it gets you out of ur comfort zone so then you can go up to people you want to get to know. And have a friend or someone yk in every period/club it helps!

Focus on what matters to you! For example, I value my mental health and equity work more than I do low-point math homework, so if it comes down to it, I’d pick those over that.

You’re gonna be absolutely fine (even in the long term) even if you don’t get straight As or whatever else it is you’re stressing about, so don’t worry!!

Remember freshmen kids. That senior that is talking/flirting with you does not love you. They just want to use you. Its insane how often i saw that shit in high school.

If you’re a younger sibling, you are LUCKY. I’m the second oldest, so I had some help from my older sister, but the more siblings you have that have already experienced high school, the easier it will be to adapt.

BE RESPECTFUL TO TEACHERS!! show that you are engaged and ask questions when the time is right, if you aren’t annoying teachers give you privileges because all the other students are terrible to them
