In France, well it's not that simple :

École primaire = Elementary school :

CP = 1st grade
CE1 = 2nd grade
CE2 = 3rd grade
CM1 = 4th grade
CM2 = 5th grade

Collège = Middle school

6ème = 6th grade
5ème = 7th grade
4ème = 8th grade
3ème = 9th grade

Lycée = High School

Seconde = 10th grade
Première = 11th grade
Terminale = 12th grade

Yeah, it is really different from other countries : )

In Canada, we have this wonderful thing called
E l e m e n t a r y s c h o o l

Where there are no lockers.
No changing rooms.
No gym clothes.
And usually no cafeteria.

Elementary school lasts from Kindergarten to Grade Eight.

There is hardly any prep for high school. The only prep we get (at my school, anyway) is two visits to the high school each year for the grade eights. All of our classes are usually with the same teacher, except for french. Well, in my school we had a seperate music and dance teacher.

I'm in grade eight at the time of writing this.

My best friend has been friends with me since the first day of kindergarten, now we’re going into 8th grade together… VERY rarely you’ll find the one person you’ll be with through everything but is isn’t common

Last 9 years I have been in a private school going into grade 9. I’m going to a public school wondering if anything would be different.

Here in Jamaica, you have primary school which is pre-school to Grade 6. You then just go to high school or secondary school which is from Grades 7 - Grade 12 and 13. The school system is kind of similar to the UK’s school system as we were a British colony, but anyways…… 7th grade here is considered 1st form, 8th grade second form, and onwards but the confusing thing is that Grades 12 and 13 are separated from high school kind of and they are called Lower 6th Form and Upper 6th Form but you don’t have to go to sixth form if you don’t want to. Finally, you have university.
