I was a third year law student during the watergate hearings. I knew that watching that would teach me more than a couple more lectures. The lesson? There will always be a stoolie trying to save his own rear end. There will also be politicians trying hard to look important with little interest in truth. Truth is never popular—than or now.

Spike Milligan when asked what was the difference between a stalactite and stalagmite answered that the stalactite was a formation of stone while the stalagmite was a miniature German prison camp.

Three points.
1. Mark is right about their zealous defense of the Watergate narrative. The left does something I call 'instant history', wherein they put a spin on an event, like J6, and zealously repeat it as if it's a settled matter. This wouldn't be so bad if it only affected grown adults that lived through the event, but they push that down into the schools, and repeat ad nauseam. When I was in middle school 40 years ago, I heard how bad Nixon was from my teachers.
2. In 2017, I told my friends that Trump was headed the way of Nixon if he kept trying to be reasonable. People were comparing MAGA to Reagan. Reagan also upset the establishment Republican class. Reagan got swindled in deals with the left, but at least he didn't want to be loved by them. As Limbaugh pointed out, Trump is a pragmatist (like Nixon), not an ideologue(like Ronnie).
3. One of the best books to read on Vietnam is An American Amnesia by Bruce Herschensohn. He shows how the left simply could not allow a victory in Vietnam, because they spent years claiming it was a civil war, unwinnable and a quagmire. They had an investment in that outcome, and couldn't afford negative returns. So when Nixon forced the North to the negotiating table and got everything the South wanted, the US Senate under Teddy Kennedy cut their legs out from under them. The parallels to Iraq are striking. After the surge made big improvements in the situation there, Obama et al. came in and stared setting timelines to retreat. After all, he had said it was unwinnable and a quagmire as well. This was spun as 'instant history' as well, where "everybody knows" it was mistake from the beginning.

Mark this Watergate series has been amazing mate 👍, so much going on even with all these characters involved who have their own fascinating individual history and agendas. So many similarities in terms of corruption between politicians and the intelligence agencies back then as there is today. All the Watergate episodes are so intriguing but hilarious at the same time. Fantastic again 👍

Remember that Nixon was a Quaker. He had a certain respect for humanity and that may have informed his decision to give grain to the Soviets.

This Nazi Flag was torn down from top of city hall in Moosburg, Germany and replaced with an American Flag on 29 April 1945. It was signed by over 100 POWs and returned to the United States by the 303rd Bomb Group's Angelo P. Petix. The Petix family donated the flag to the Mighty Eighth AF Museum in Pooler, GA

I love you guys so much
I grew up in Canada so didn't learn much about US history
So many of these episodes are teaching me how it really went down for the first time. It is so cool not to have a false narrative to unpack and to be able to learn ALL the facts right of the bat.

I knew Donald Pleasance was a POW in WW2 but didn’t know he was a bunkmate of Barker.
