As someone who is moderately autistic and highly introverted, I have been accused of being a psychopath several times. I am deeply sensitive and empathetic, but have never felt comfortable expressing much emotion to people I do not know. Combined with my eccentricity and socio-political contrarianism, this has often led to me being boxed as the outcast, the mad guy, the freak, etc.

I thought it was the other way around, that psychopaths was born that way (without empathy) and sociopaths was "made" by a lacking untrustworthy unsafe abusive upbringing? 🤔

This my now Exiting husband. Two looney parents that abused him & his siblings and he was spoiled.
He is EVERY behavior described. Cruel to animals, molested his younger sister, a kleptomaniac, he HAS tried to kill me- From starting a fight & hiding in the garage with a gun, to contaminate my food with nut powder because I’m anaphylactic allergic. I left him & he stalked me. Flew to my new state & tried to kill me there. Yet He STILL has his job for the NAVY / DOD -on North Island - he’s a Materials Engineer with a high security clearance & THE NAVY protects him

Yes, she switched the sociopath and then psychopath around. Psychopath is born with genetic factors and their childhood makes it worse. Sociopath is born with no genetic markers and goes through a very abusive childhood that turns them into a sociopath. That's still very true and accurate.

I am uncovering that my brother is a psychopath. Very cold and callous and manipulative. And I believe in his core, low conscientiousness. It is discouraging to know these are some of the most damaging people of society, even more than high Machs and narcs! But encouraging to know I need to get the hell away from him and heal from his toxic influence over me growing up with him. Ugh! Thanks Dr Ho.

The brains of my mom and dad are the brains we need to be studying.

I think it's both nature & nurture. I will also say that certain cultures seem to create a high number of psychopaths which to me proves that nurture plays a big part.

Now I'm more confused than ever about the difference between psychopath and sociopath. I was always told one was nature and one was nurture.

Heaps of people have had traumatic or abusive childhoods, and they don't become psychopaths. Psychopaths are mostly born this way, not made.

I have been diagnosed as a psychopath and since birth I have had green eyes with strange lines, my left eye is completely different than my right eye.

As a psychopath I agree with her. I dont go out of my way to hurt people. I like to be isolated. I had people ask me what is like to live without any emotion (which is not true by the way we feel everynow and again) and Idk I have nothing to compare it to. Its like talking to grown 5 year olds.... I guess. what ever they say is not that important. At the end of the day psychopaths come in different flavors stay away from the mint chocolate ones (the bad ones) and you should be fine.

I think Discipline is responsible for those not showing physiological signs of psychopathy. Discipline or a habit rewires the brain into a new set of reward system rules, which environment can affect a person's type of what he values, in turn that determines Discipline forming. It has the power to change your DNA. David Goggins is a prime example of how discipline changes you internally, albeit not in the psychopath sense.

Are there any good, readable, books on how difficult times program people to have dark personality traits as a survival mechanism?

My ex wife who went to get a BPD diagnosis but told the PHD she was single so they wouldn’t want to ask me about her traits because she actually has ASPD. With a psychopath mother and sister who have all spent their lives trying to manipulate people and committing endless crimes.

Here it says that psychopaths struggle in society. Long term relationships, work etc. Yet I've also heard that psychopaths actually do very well in society as they are able to blend, manipulate mimic and generally have a good sense of control over their emotions very well. So which is it? 😅

Very informative. The latest edition of the DSM describe the symptoms and the variety of traits, such psychopathy with religious beliefs and fanaticism.
